I recently completed the final round of interviews with one of the MBB‘s. After the first round, I received a call from the interviewer with whom I did really well. Is it always the case that the interviewer calling to break the news is the one who most supported/objected to extending an offer to the applicant?

Hi,

would second Christian here - to my knowledge there is no such rule (at least in BCG in my geo) and who will call you depends only on

1) Timing / availabliity

2) Specific office's rules on how to run the process (e.g. HR would typicall call first in the office where I can from)

Best of luck with the feedback from your last round and congratulations for having made it to final round!!

#1 BCG coach | MBB | Tier 2 | Digital, Tech, Platinion | 100% personal success rate (8/8) | 95% candidate success rate

Why does it matter?

First, congrats on the 2nd round! That's awesome!

But please just focus your mind/efforts on the things that are going to affect outcomes :)

And there's no rule to who calls. It can be based on power/influence, business, who supported/liked you the most, protocols, habits, whose turn it is, etc.

Hi there,

No, there is no such rule.

The interviewers just decide amongst themselves who will be calling you. If they've run interviews together before, they usually alternate.

Best of luck!
Cristian

Generally it tends to be the case that the interviewer who was pivotal to your interview outcome makes the call. However, there are a myriad of other factors (e.g. timing) that can lead to a different interviewer giving you a call.

Good luck with the outcome of your final interview round!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the offer!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, it depends on the company, region, and country to which you applied. While it is mostly one of the partners who interview you in the final interview round, you might as well be handed the offer already at the end of your last interview.
  • Still, to my knowledge, there is no rule as to who hands out the offer.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

30% off in March 2024 | Bain | EY-Parthenon | Roland Berger | Market Sizing | DARDEN MBA

It is one of the interviewers, not necessarily the most supportive. There's really not a rule there.

There's no hard and fast rule. Often someone who is super excited about a candidate calls to give them the good news / the person who had the worst interview calls with bad news. But at the end of an interview day you want to try to distribute the calls so that everyone has a fairly equal number. So don't read into it!

Good luck!
