Kearney in Australia - 3 questions about recruiting

Hey PrepLounge,

Can anyone with reliable and recent information shed light on the recruiting process for Kearney in Australia? I've been invited to move forward with interviews and I wanted to know:

1) Is it normal to have FOUR rounds of interviews? I have been told there will be four rounds which, to me, feels like a lot of rounds.

2) If indeed four rounds is correct (as seems to be the case based on what Kearney told me), can anyone shed light on what the assessment mix will be at each stage? For example: Round 1 - behavioural and 1 case; Round 2 - 2 back-to-back cases, etc.

3) Can anyone comment on what: a) the culture and lifestyle is in Kearney Australia? b) the career progression prospects? c) the sector focus for that office, and d) the geographic focus (for example: expect to do 60% Sydney work, 20% other Australia, and 20% in Indonesia/Vietnam/Malaysia)

I am doing my own research on the side, but I always value the inside information and insights from this wonderful platform.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from Kearney!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, while it is certainly not common to have four rounds of interviews with Kearney Australia, it could very well be the case because you are an experienced hire and Kearney is adapting the standard application process accordingly.
  • Either way, I would highly advise you to reach out to the recruiter to inquire about the specific contents of the interview rounds so that you can prepare properly.
  • Generally speaking, while I do not know about Kearney Australia's culture specifically, you can expect it to be very similar to the culture in most other regions and countries.
  • Similarly, career progression will be defined globally for all regions and countries, thus there are no differences to be anticipated.
  • Lastly, regarding the regional focus, I think your assessment should be quite accurate. Still, I would highly advise you to reach out to the recruiter and/or consulting staff at Kearney Australia directly to inquire about this information and other insights about Kearney Australia specifically.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Thanks for this.
I'm raising most of these points with the recruiter, but I also like to hear 'unofficial' voices as well since they are typically free from agenda.
On that note , could you elaborate on 2 of your answers?

When you say:

...that Kearney Australia's culture should be very similar to the culture in other regions and countries, could you share 1 or 2 lines on what that culture actually is? If you know, of course.

And when you say that career progression is defined globally, can you comment on what that global standard of progression is from the analyst level to the partner? No. of years at each stage, focus on 'Up or Out,' etc.

My appreciation for your guidance.

Hi there,

1) Is it normal to have FOUR rounds of interviews? I have been told there will be four rounds which, to me, feels like a lot of rounds.

In general it is unusual to have four rounds in a consulting interview, but possibly they split the interviews into multiple rounds.

2) If indeed four rounds is correct (as seems to be the case based on what Kearney told me), can anyone shed light on what the assessment mix will be at each stage? For example: Round 1 - behavioural and 1 case; Round 2 - 2 back-to-back cases, etc.

This should be verified with HR.

I don’t have specific info so will leave this to those with more information.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

I'm currently in Australia and worked for BCG Australia, so happy to help.

1) This is a lot. Not common. But, it is what it is!

2) We can't break this down because it changes. Additionally, even if they tell you x will happen, the interviewer themselves might go off sript. Please be prepared for anything!

In general, be prepared for any combination of:

  • Case
  • Fit
  • Market Sizing
  • Brainstorming

3) Great networking qestions! Also, great questions for your interview (when they ask “do you have any questions for me”)

Hi there!

My Kearney candidates usually had 2-3 rounds. Haven't yet had situations with 4.

Realistically, the format of the interview changes from firm to firm and office to office, so it's best to always check directly with the recruiter. If they say it's 4, then it's 4. I wouldn't read too much into it. Everybody at that particular office and applying for that particular role will go through the same process.

Best,

Cristian

My best guess is that you are going to have 4 interviews, and they won't necessarily be paired. So it's like having two rounds, but with more scheduling flexibility on their side.

Hi,

looks like they will implement a decision point after each of four interviews. There may be two interviews at the first or last round for a total of 5. This is my guess based on experience at other offices of Kearney.
