I was just wondering would an "easier" degree at suppose LSE for Sociology be better than an economics degree at UoM? (For best chance to break into MBB)

That said, you should choose the degree you're most passionate about. Whether it’s Sociology at LSE or Economics at UoM, you can break into MBB with either.

Whichever path you choose, I strongly recommend doing an internship during your studies. It will help you get a foot in the door, build experience, and see if consulting is truly the right fit for you.

• Prestige of University Matters: Consulting firms tend to recruit heavily from top-tier universities, so attending a prestigious school like LSE could give you an advantage. LSE has a strong reputation and a well-established recruiting pipeline for MBB firms, regardless of the specific degree (whether it's Sociology, Economics, or another field).
• Degree Type is Less Important: While Economics is more traditionally aligned with consulting roles, MBB firms recruit candidates from a wide range of academic backgrounds. Sociology, for example, can provide strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills—all of which are valuable in consulting.

What Really Matters:

• Extracurriculars and Leadership: MBB firms are looking for well-rounded candidates who have demonstrated leadership, problem-solving ability, and impact. Your extracurricular activities, internships, and other experiences will carry a lot of weight in your application.

I wouldn't pick a degree to solve for what will break you into MBB, especially when its a high risk that you can't do anything else with a sociology degree if you fail. 

Instead, focus on what your true interests are - For your own satisfaction and sanity

This depends on many factors and not just the degree. 

Both degrees mentioned would likely be well-received during the applications, provided you have a high GPA and relevant work/internship experience on the side, plus everything else that makes a strong resume.

However, the goal of your studies should also be to pursue something interesting and meaningful. Maybe you are interested in both topics equally, but I would not spend 3-5 years on a subject I am less interested in if I have the opportunity to do something else.

If you're trying to optimize for MBB, recruiters will be more interested in the school's pedigree and a strong CGPA regardless of the course of study. 

In this case, these schools are both recognized by MBB but if you want to be analytical about it (which I don't think is a good use of your time), you can go on LinkedIn to compare proportion of alumni that went to MBB.

Regarding selection of discipline, it depends on what you want to optimize for (e.g., interest, perceived difficulty/ease, industry marketability of the degree, etc.). I would suggest you think about what factors matter most to you and why. Then, regardless of what discipline you end up choosing, get the best grades, internships, and leadership extracurricular activities you can obtain because those are the key drivers of recruiters' decisions.
