How common is it for Deloitte partners to check the LinkedIn of applicants

Hi everyone,

Just out of curiosity, how common is it for deloitte partners to check the Linkedin profile of an applicant ? I got rejected quickly at screening, but saw that a partner at Deloitte checked my profile in the same week. I have a somewhat of an unusual background for consulting (medical and cs student), and my LinkedIn was not perfectly optimized.

Thank you

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the rejection from Deloitte!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, please keep in mind that the initial screening is done by the recruiting department, not by the partners. So it could very well be a coincidence.
  • Moreover, even if this particular partner had something to do with the initial screening, it is unlikely that a slightly less elaborate LinkedIn profile would have led to the rejection. Most likely, as hard as it may sound, your profile as expressed in your application files was simply not strong enough.
  • Lastly, if you have not already done so, I would highly advise you to apply to other consulting firms to maximize your chances of eventually receiving at least one consulting offer.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Hi there,

It’s relatively common for Deloitte partners and recruiters to review applicants’ LinkedIn profiles to gain a comprehensive understanding of their backgrounds. If your CV didn’t fully convey your unique combination of medical and computer science expertise, they might have turned to LinkedIn for additional insights. To ensure your profile effectively supports your applications, consider the following optimization tips:
    •    Professional Photo: A clear, professional headshot can increase profile views and response rates.
    •    Detailed Experience: Clearly outline your educational background, relevant projects, and work experience to showcase your unique qualifications in a reverse chronological order.
    •    Skills and Endorsements: Highlight key skills pertinent to consulting and seek endorsements to validate your expertise.
    •    Languages: List any languages you are fluent in, as multilingualism is valuable in consulting roles.

By optimizing your LinkedIn profile, you enhance your visibility and attractiveness to recruiters and partners, so it's always worth the effort!

Let me know if I could help you further - happy to offer more detailed tips/ advice.

Best,
Evelina

Hi,

Yes, it is common for partners at Deloitte (and other professional services firms) to review the LinkedIn profiles of applicants during the hiring process. While LinkedIn is typically not the primary source of information, it provides them with additional insights on:

  1. Verification: They may verify details provided on your resume or application. For example, they might check your work history, educational background, or specific skills listed on your profile.
  2. Profile Completeness: A well-organized LinkedIn profile can give candidates an advantage, showing they have taken care to present themselves professionally. A complete profile with clear job descriptions and achievements can leave a positive impression.
  3. Networking and Recommendations: LinkedIn allows candidates to showcase recommendations from colleagues or clients, which can strengthen your application. Networking and mutual connections could also come into play, with partners seeing how you connect with people in the industry.

It’s important to keep your LinkedIn profile professional, up-to-date, and reflective of the information on your CV.

Let me know if you need further guidance.

Hey!

It's not very common for Deloitte partners to personally check LinkedIn profiles during the screening process, as this is usually handled by recruiters or junior team members. However, it can happen, especially if your background is unique and stands out in some way. Partners might check profiles out of curiosity, if they were involved in the hiring decision, or if your application was flagged for potential fit. A LinkedIn visit doesn’t necessarily indicate a rejection reason, but optimizing your profile can always help for future applications. Let me know if you need any tips! ?

Hey,

Sorry to hear about the rejection but there's a lesson learned from this: having a strong profile on LinkedIn tailored to a position you are applying to is a must nowadays.

Only apply after you've got both your CV and a LinkedIn profile in order as the competition is huge, therefore consulting firms need to make sure they are getting the best candidates.

Good luck next time!

Not very common and unlikely a driver for the rejection. I'd be happy to work with you on telling a compelling story on your CV for future applications.

Your profile should be clean and well-structured, but the CV matters most.

Hi there,

Uncommon as they are usually busy and have other priorities. Could be for any kind of reason (e.g., when providing feedback they wanted to remind themselves of one fac of your resume) but in any case - LinkedIn and the design of your profile will not be considered during the application.

All the best,

Florian

Hey there,

This question calls for high speculation and is very individual on any specific partner.

It is not a policy of Deloitte Partners to check LinkedIn of applicants, and some may or may not do that. We can't know what % will and what % won't.

My opinion, this won't be common at all. Partners generally don't have time for this and even more so because it is not their responsibility to screen in this way. Furthermore, recruiting would have shared with them your CV. Having said that, there may be some who may do that.

So just make sure you have a strong LinkedIn profile regardless, but focus on optimizing other more important aspects that have substantial weighting on affecting your chances of being successful

All the best
