Dear Coaches,

Is it possible to prepare GMAT and case preparation for MBB at the same time or it is taxing or difficult assuming I work in a job not demanding in which I work 4 hours a day.? or one may get confused preparing for both? I have been preparing for GMAT so I would not want to postpone it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Here are my thoughts:

1) It is possible, but not sure why would you want to study both together?

2) If you get into a good MBA program, they business school will have a consulting club and a clear track to help you prepare for consulting

3) You will have the resources, the people and the know how to understand in which direction you should put in the effort. Ranging from office selection strategy, all the way to case interviews.

Hope this helps!

Feel free to reach out to me directly if you need any help!

All the best :)

Hi there,

Only you can answer that question.

It's generally possible, yes. However, if you're easily confused i.e., struggle to switch from one task to another, it may not be the right approach.

Also, it's not just a matter of time based on what I have seen over the years:

  • People pass MBB interviews that have very little time to prepare e.g., full-time professionals with a family and kids. They are highly disciplined and conscientious with a clear strategy.
  • People fail MBB intterviews that have lots of time to prepare but don't apply themselves, struggle to incorporate feedback, don't have a clear strategy, or simply can't reach the level required.

Working with a coach is generally a huge time-saver and advisable if you're in doubt. If there's anything I can help you with in that regard, please reach out.

Best of luck!

Moritz

Hi there,

Q: Is it possible to prepare GMAT and case preparation for MBB at the same time or it is taxing or difficult assuming I work in a job not demanding in which I work 4 hours a day? Or one may get confused preparing for both?

It could be possible. The exact answer in your case depends on several elements, including:

  1. Your timeline for interviews/ giving the GMAT
  2. Your current level in terms of interviews/ GMAT
  3. How much time you could dedicate per day to interviews/ GMAT
  4. The resources that you will use to improve your current level

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for a lot of users, thus I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • It is definitely possible to prepare for both the GMAT and interview preparation for MBB at the same time, but it may require careful planning and time management to ensure that you are able to give both areas of study the time and attention they deserve. Here are a few tips that may help you effectively prepare for both the GMAT and interview preparation while working a job:
    • Create a study schedule: Set aside specific blocks of time each day or week to focus on GMAT and interview preparation. This will help you stay on track and ensure that you are making progress in both areas.
    • Prioritize your studies: If you have limited time available to study, consider prioritizing one area of focus over the other. For example, you may choose to devote more time to GMAT preparation in the short term and then focus more on interview preparation as the exam date approaches.
    • Take breaks and manage your stress: It is important to take breaks and manage your stress levels as you prepare for both the GMAT and case preparation. This can help you stay focused and avoid burnout.
    • Seek support: Don't be afraid to ask for help or seek guidance from friends, family, or a tutor if you are struggling to balance your studies. They may be able to offer advice or support to help you stay on track.
  • Overall, it is possible to prepare for both the GMAT and interview preparation while working a job, but it will require careful planning and time management. Make sure to give yourself sufficient time to study and be consistent in your efforts, and don't be afraid to seek support if you need it.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on what to do in your specific situation, please feel free to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

That should definitely be possible as you have 12 hours a day (excluding 4 hours of work and 8 of sleep) to prepare.

It may be nice to take a break from one by doing the other, rather than focusing on only one for most of the day.

My advice would be to see what works best for you in terms of balancing your time and concentration, whether you do a GMAT only day and a case only day or you mix it up.

Hi there,

It's certainly possible, but probably not advised. Each one on it's own is quite a commitment…and I'm talking about brainpower not just time!

Remember that your brain works “offline” as well. When you're not working, your brain is still mulling over and processing things. If you're doing multiple things (work + GMAT + case prep), you get less “free” learning.

You can do both. But if you can somehow split, I'd recommend that.

It is definitely possible if you work 4h per day.
