BCG SA - Feedback Waiting

Hello,

It has been 3 weeks since I have completed the final round of interviews with BCG for the Dubai Office as Senior Associate.

I already followed up with HR one week after the last interview, and they mentioned to me that they were planning to discuss my case during the following week, so I could have expected news by the end of last week, but I have not received any.

I am aware that the process takes time and a lot of busy stakeholders are involved. However, given also the current slow down in hiring happening in the region, how could I interpret this? Is that usually a bad sign when they do not communicate the outcome immediately, or maybe they are just waiting because they do not have urgent need to hire for this position?

Also, should I reach out to my referall (a partner at the firm), as I did already following last interview, or it's better not to make him waste his time and just be patient? I am currently still working for another firm so I am not in a huge rush but of course I will like to know the outcome of this as soon as possible.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello,

The delay in BCG’s response isn’t necessarily a bad sign—it could be due to internal discussions, budget approvals, or the regional hiring slowdown. While firms typically communicate quickly when eager to hire, extended silence can also mean they’re keeping options open.

Since HR already acknowledged your case was under review, another follow-up now may not add value. If you don’t hear back in another week or two, a polite check-in would be reasonable.

As for your referral, if they’ve been actively supporting you, a brief message could be appropriate. Otherwise, patience is best for now. Since you’re currently employed, waiting a bit longer won’t hurt, but it’s worth considering other opportunities in parallel.

Best,

Evelina

Hey there,

Admittedly, this is quite a long time to wait since having completed final round. And it does happen that such long-time delays between interviewing and giving feedback exists, and it mostly has nothing to do with your performance. There are many factors that could cause such (including waiting for other candidates to finish their interviews before giving offers) and recruiting usually don't like communicating these reasons so they sometimes just choose not to respond (which is not my favorite thing)

So really, it's best not to speculate and just wait for the feedback. Also, good job on being proactive and following up regularly with recruiting. I don't see any harm in reaching out to your Partner referral, especially if you have a good relationship with that Partner.

All the best!

Hi,

It's great that HR have been communicative & not gone radio silent.

My suggestion would be to follow-up with HR (or your referral, if you have a good relationship with them) in a few days.

Delays are common when coordinating multiple stakeholders & Ramadan starting may have had an impact on the working practices of the office.

I think it would be polite enough to drop a follow-up note along the lines of "conscious Ramadan has kicked-off & colleagues will be busy navigating personal & professional commitments etc." in a few days.

Let us know how it goes!

Hello there,
First of all, sorry for this period of anxiety, I know how difficult it is to wait after all the work and expectations.

(...) given also the current slow down in hiring happening in the region, how could I interpret this? Is that usually a bad sign when they do not communicate the outcome immediately, or maybe they are just waiting because they do not have urgent need to hire for this position?

It was supposed to be a 2-week period of waiting, that turned into 3. Not a big delay, actually, at least from my experience. You should not interpret as a bad sign, but rather be neutral about it and wait for their feedback. So many things may be in the way: intense projects, vacations, holidays, other interviews, difficulty to sync schedules, etc.

Also, should I reach out to my referal (a partner at the firm), as I did already following last interview, or it's better not to make him waste his time and just be patient?

I would wait until Thursday for an HR response and if nothing is said, reach out to him.

Good luck!
Best,
Mari

Hi there,

that is indeed quite a long time that they are taking. Presumably because (a) they are waiting for other candidates to complete the process or (b) some internal stakeholder on BCG side is unavailable. Remind us, your process is lateral hire, right? Are you interviewing for a specific practice area (PA)? If so, it makes sense that they might take more time because the head of the PA will ultimately make the decision.

I would wait until Wednesday and reach out to your referral partner again. He might get more concrete information.

All the best,
Sebastian

Hi there,

1) Is that usually a bad sign when they do not communicate the outcome immediately, or maybe they are just waiting because they do not have urgent need to hire for this position?

It’s not a great sign, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have been rejected. They might have the necessity to align on the exact recruiting needs or to complete the recruiting process with other candidates before making a decision.

2) Also, should I reach out to my referal (a partner at the firm), as I did already following last interview, or it's better not to make him waste his time and just be patient?

If you have already reached out once after the final round, I don’t think it makes sense to reach out again.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

These waiting periods are annoying...

However, a 3-week delay post-final round isn’t necessarily a bad sign, especially given regional hiring slowdowns. It could mean they are waiting for headcount approval or considering multiple candidates before making a decision.

If HR indicated they were discussing your case but haven't updated you now for another 2 weeks, a polite follow-up is reasonable. Since you’ve already reached out to your referral once, avoid excessive follow-ups with this person unless they are directly involved in the decision.

Fingers crossed!

Hey there ?, waiting 3+ weeks after a final round at BCG Dubai can feel frustrating, but it doesn’t necessarily mean a rejection—especially given the hiring slowdown in the region.

How to Interpret the Delay?

1️⃣ Not an outright rejection – If they had decided against you, they likely would have communicated a rejection sooner. Long delays often mean they’re still deciding, possibly due to headcount constraints or budget approvals.
2️⃣ Pipeline management – BCG sometimes waits to compare final-round candidates before making offers, especially in slower hiring periods.
3️⃣ Role prioritization – If there’s no immediate business need, they might delay extending offers until the hiring outlook improves.

Should You Reach Out to Your Referral?

  • Since you’ve already followed up once, I’d wait another week before checking in again.
  • If no response by then, a polite check-in with your referral (partner) is fine—frame it as seeking an update on hiring timelines rather than pushing for a decision.

Bottom Line:

Your case is still in play, and while hiring is slow, the delay isn’t necessarily a bad sign. Stay patient, but if another week or two pass with no news, it’s reasonable to follow up again.

Hope this helps! Best, Alessa ?

Hi there,

With the current economic situation it is not uncommon for candidate to wait longer than usual for feedback.

There is no need to wonder how to interpret the situation, because there are just so many factors out of your control. Focus on what you can – do you have other interviews lining up? If so spend your energy on those. Or any other things on your plate that you have control.

If you already nudged the partner once, I’d think it might be better to wait out a bit before you ask his/her favor again.

Good luck!

Emily
