Hello

i just finished my final rounds with Bain I had 2 interviews on one day and the third got rescheduled to yesterday.

I’m asking about stuff interviewes told me : one interviewer said I hope to see you soon at Bain.

Also at the end of the interview what does it mean when a Partner asks what office im interested in and who’s the recruiter im coordinating with. Is it a good sign or is it something they usually mention?
Since I finished two interviews few days prior, would the decision be faster or it doesn’t matter?

thank you and the sorry for the anxious questions!

Hi there,

1) I’m asking about stuff interviewers told me: one interviewer said I hope to see you soon at Bain.

This seems positive, however you cannot really extrapolate much, it might simply be a polite way to say goodbye.

2) Also at the end of the interview what does it mean when a Partner asks what office I’m interested in and who’s the recruiter I’m coordinating with. Is it a good sign or is it something they usually mention?

This also looks positive, but again you cannot extrapolate.

3) Since I finished two interviews few days prior, would the decision be faster or it doesn’t matter?

I don’t think the previous scheduling is going to have an impact. However, for final rounds you usually receive feedback the same day or the days right after in any case.

Good luck!

Francesco

#1 Bain coach | >95% success rate | interviewer for 8+ years | mentor and coach for 7+ years

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on conducting all interview rounds with Bain!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • While I can completely understand your ambition to read between the lines and as such control the situation, I would highly advise you not to do so since you essentially no longer control it. Moreover, even if the interviewer actually meant to give you a hint, he/she will not be the only person to decide whether you will receive an offer or not.
  • Instead, I would highly advise you to distract yourself in the meantime by spending time with family and friends, pursuing a hobby, or applying, preparing, and interviewing with other strategy consulting companies.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

#1 BCG coach | MBB | Tier 2 | Digital, Tech, Platinion | 100% personal success rate (8/8) | 95% candidate success rate

Hi there,

“Hope to see you soon” means nothing. Asking offices and recruiters is a better sign.

However, please please stop palying the game of predicitons.

Just literally stop thinking about the outcome now.

It is out of your hands. No amount of analysis or pondering over it will get you an answer. You will know when you know.

Focus your energy, effort, and brainpower on applying to other firms and prepping for other interviews! Hope for the best and prep for the worst.

Good luck!

The challenge with reading into particular statements is that it is hard to see it in a holistic context. It could be that the partner is asking it as part of a standard set of questions or it could be that the partner is genuinely interested to staff you in their team.

You are ultimately the best judge of how things went. All you have said indicate that the process went well. All the best to you.

Ex McKinsey EM & interviewer (5 yrs) USA & UK| Coached / interviewed 300 +|Free 15 min intro| Stanford MBA|Non-trad

I'm afraid that I really don't recommend trying to read into what the interviewers said to you. At McKinsey we were always trained not to give any explicitly positive or negative feedback as you don't know how the other interview that the candidate has had, has gone. It may be that they were great in yours and bombed the other one, you don't want to get their hopes up and then have them dashed.

However, as an interviewer it's really hard not to say something positive! So it may well mean that you've done great, it may also mean that they were trying to say goodbye in an encouraging way. The lesson is, don't read into it. Laser focus on your last interview and worry about what comes afterwards, afterwards.

Good luck!

Hi there,

the signals you got are definitely positive. However, you will need some patience and have to wait until you get the final feedback - it should not take too long.

Good luck!

30% off in April 2024 | Bain | EY-Parthenon | Roland Berger | Market Sizing | DARDEN MBA

All of that is common and has no meaning whatsoever.

I would go through the whole process even with candidates I felt didn't stand a chance - as my peers could for some reason disagree. And in any case it would be polite of me to do so.
