Asking for office relocation before accepting an offer

Hello everyone,

I have recently got an offer from Artefact in their Lebanon office. However things are getting worse by the minute in Lebanon (literally got the offer hours before the worst ever attack on Lebanon yesterday). Thus, I am thinking of sending a heartfelt letter as a reply to ask for relocating me to the gcc area, also the salary is more than double there. How sensible is that and should I send it to the HR who sent me the offer or to the partner that conducted the final interview with me.

Thank you in advance everyone.

Hey! It’s perfectly reasonable to request relocation given the escalating situation in Lebanon. I would suggest addressing the HR department first, as they handle employment logistics, but also CC the partner from your final interview for added visibility. In your message, express gratitude for the offer and mention your excitement about joining Artefact. Then, explain that due to the deteriorating safety situation in Lebanon, relocation to the GCC would allow you to work more effectively and safely. Additionally, highlight the benefits of relocating, such as being in a more stable environment and aligning with the higher salary levels in the GCC, which could enhance your productivity and contribution to the firm. This approach is both professional and sensible given the circumstances. Good luck!

Hi,

It’s completely reasonable to request a relocation given the situation in Lebanon. I would recommend calling both the HR contact to explain your concerns. A call makes your request more personal and allows for an immediate discussion. Afterward, you can follow up with a formal email to HR and the Partner.

Frame your request around your gratitude for the offer, the safety concerns you're facing, and how relocating to the GCC could benefit both you and the company.

Good luck and stay safe!

Hi there,

You can ask if they might consider a different location, there is no issue with that. However, there is no guarantee they will oblige. I would recommend calling HR and explaining the situation.

Good luck!

Given the current situation, it's perfectly reasonable to have that discussion. It's not a situation where you applied to one office and, in bad faith, actually wanted to be placed in another one.

To be honest, as this is very recent news, it may even be possible that the partners themselves will want to have some of the newcomers join other offices as the economic prospect right now significantly deteriorated and they may not need as many consultants.

Hi there,

Given the situation, you should definitely discuss this with HR. If they can’t accommodate transferring you to another office, you might at least want to consider postponing your start date so you can monitor the situation in Lebanon and decide whether you want to ultimately even take the risk.

Best of luck

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this tough situation!

I would definitely ask for the relocation, bearing in mind that other candidates and current employees are likely in the same boat and trying the same.

Fingers crossed!

All the best,

Florian
