Former McKinsey manager and interviewer that has conducted 50+ case study and personal fit interviews for McKinsey interviewees, and 100+ coaching sessions as part of their process.

My coaching approach stems from what I see in the most successful candidates across the 2 parts of the interview process - the case study, and the personal fit. Depending on candidate needs my approach involves: 

  • Helping candidates understand the most important factors we look for when interviewing candidates and how to improve them (with practical examples)
  • Doing a live 30-minute (interviewer or interviewee led) case study with candidates, along with feedback
  • Helping candidates understand the importance of good personal fit stories, and how to walk through them
  • Sharing feedback on an example story and structure

Acing the case study: To help candidates consistently ace the case study, I help candidates understand the most important things we look for when interviewing:

  • Building an amazing structure: How to build a nuanced structure that isn't cookie-cutter, and tips on how to add elements to a framework to make you standout from the crowd
  • Explaining insights to interviewers: How to keep interviewers consistently updated of your thought process, and how you are consistently able to generate critical insights from data 
  • Synthesising answers: How to summarise and structure responses to interviewer's questions in a way that makes them realise you're a great communicator and a structured person (one of the most critical aspects of an interviewer's evaluation)
  • Leading the thought process: How to drive the discussion in such a way that the interviewer is able to effectively gauge your problem solving skills
  • Common pitfalls to avoid: How to avoid some of the common mistakes that interviewees make to ensure you consistently are able to perform well on the day
  • Doing a live-case study: Go through an actual case study that mimics a live interview, along with feedback on what to improve and focus on

Acing the personal fit: The personal fit is extremely important, and for this section my goal is to coach candidates on the process that helped me get offers from all the consulting firms I interviewed for:

  • Coming up with distinctive stories: How to ensure the stories you have bring out the best in your profile, and helping candidates identify some of their best stories based on each consulting firm's needs and questions
  • Structure stories using the STAR method: Helping candidates structure their stories in the right way so it gives the right level of detail, and helping them understand the STAR method
  • Common pitfalls to avoid: How to avoid common mistakes
  • Doing a live-case personal fit: Go through a personal fit question, and share feedback on things to focus and improve on
