How competitive is Singapore office for post-MBA consultant position? Most of the firms require PR or citizen in order to apply and very few firms do not require that. Do I stand a chance putting it as a second choice for firms that do not require PR there? Does it worth a try? Or should I put 100% London office? (I am doing an MBA in Europe)

Hi,

Within the SEA system, it is the most competitive office. Everyone wants to be in Singapore (for various reasons), and there is always not enough space.

In today's world, I would say the chances of getting in without a PR is significantly more difficult (not impossible), and will only get better once the economy starts to get better.

Dear A,

Either London office or Singapore office are quite competitive one. For proper answer to this question, I wish to know more about your background, because you have more chances in the country where you have either citizenship, work experience or network.

If you want to discuss your situation in detail, feel free to PM.

Best,

André

Hi there,

Singapore office is super competitive. So I wouldn't recommend as a 2nd choice, espcially if you don't have a strong tie to the country already.

Why not include your home country office as 2nd choice, if there is one?

Best,

Emily

Hi there,

As your comment below suggests, no office is "easy".

In fact, trying to play this game is not going to get you anywhere.

Stop worrying about the competition and worry about yourself!

So, apply to the offices where:

1) You have work rights

2) You speak the language

3) You have work experience

4) You have networked / have a referral

And forget the rest!

I always encourage candidates to pick an 'easy' option for the second choice and yes always have a second choice. London is super competitive but Singapore is not far behind. Depending on your citizenship - perhaps other offices in Europe example Amsterdam, Nordics etc or some of the ME offices example Dubai which are growing faster than average

Thanks B. I am Asian so no relevent work experience in Europe. Will try to reach out to Nordics and Amsterdam; doesn't seem like any of the office is "easy". I will reach out to know more

Ah! If you are Asian - perhaps try for your local office as well? Also check out Francesco's answer on office selection here https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/about-office-selection-at-mba-level-7571
