BCG BCG Case Interview pymetrics test

Hi,

I recently applied to BCG and have a few general questions.

I applied through online without any referral as working professional, and got pymetric test  invitation shortly. I finished the test within the timeline they provided and completed the application by doing it.

It has been past 2weeks after I finished the test but haven't got any response since then.

my question is,

1. Is pymetric test for everyone who applied? ( just curious, if it is, I thought it would've been part of online application form but it was separate invitation with some time gap between)

If it's not, does that mean my application passed CV screening?

2. After the pymetric test, (I am not really sure I have done it well or not) how long does it take to hear back from them whether it's a rejection or an interview invitation?

If I don't hear back from them in 2weeks, does that mean I still have some chance? or it just mean I am out of consideration.

3. If I still have some chance, should I start to prepare for the interview now? like case study and stuff? I am totally new and almost zero background (just don't know where to start)

4. there are different interview styles I guess, chatbot and case interview, should I prepare for both? or it is something that I need to decide at least after I get an actual invitation?

Hi there,

Congrats on getting to this point!

Let me take the questions one by one.

1. Is pymetric test for everyone who applied? If it's not, does that mean my application passed CV screening?

It depends on the office, region and sometimes the role. My recommendation would be to not read not too much into the fact that they sent you the test. Generally, the look at both the test and the CV to make the decision of whether to progress you to the interview stage.

2. After the pymetric test how long does it take to hear back from them whether it's a rejection or an interview invitation?

There's no set timeline and it depends on the workload of the respective office you're applying to. I would say that anything beyond a month is concerning and that's when you should definitely follow-up with them.

3. If I still have some chance, should I start to prepare for the interview now? like case study and stuff?

YES. I usually recommend candidates to start applying when they are already borderline passing the practice cases. This way they don't have to scramble before the interview or start postponing them just to catch up.

4. there are different interview styles I guess, chatbot and case interview, should I prepare for both? or it is something that I need to decide at least after I get an actual invitation?

Do you mean candidate-led vs interviewer-led? If yes, it doesn't really matter in the beginning, it's just important to get started. The difference between candidate-led vs interviewer-led is like driving on the left or right side of the road. As long as you know how to drive, you should be doing fine in both. Then you only need a few tweaks to make sure that you do really well.

Best,
Cristian

Hello,

To answer your questions:

1. The pymetric test gets sent to those who passed an initial CV screen, so yes, you passed that. However, the decision to invite you to interview will be based on both your CV + your test results, not just the test result, so your CV is still being evaluated in that sense.

2. This really depends on which office you applied to, how busy the recruiting cycle is, etc. 2 weeks is a completely normal length of time to wait to hear back for an application: they have a lot of candidates applying so sometimes it takes a little while. This wait is no indication of how well you did at all - it likely just means they have a lot of applications to go through on their end.  I would wait a few more weeks, and if it's been over a month and you still haven't heard anything, reach out to HR.

3. I would definitely recommend starting to prepare for case and behavioral interviews asap. If you do get invited for an interview, they will likely ask to schedule it within a few weeks, so getting some more prep time before then is important to make sure you can perform to your best ability. In my opinion the downside of starting to prepare early is far smaller than the potential upside.

4. I would find out how the interview process works in the office you are applying to (you can ask HR), and just focus on that. There will certainly be a live case interview at some point in the process, so you will definitely need to prepare for that. But if your office uses chatbot interviews, you should prepare for those too.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi there,

1) Is pymetric test for everyone who applied? If it's not, does that mean my application passed CV screening?

It depends on the office and level of seniority. They may also tweak the process any time, so difficult to say if the CV screening has already been done without additional information.

2) After the pymetric test, (I am not really sure I have done it well or not) how long does it take to hear back from them whether it's a rejection or an interview invitation?

Also depends on several elements. If you don’t hear within 1 month it is fine to followup

3) If I still have some chance, should I start to prepare for the interview now? like case study and stuff? I am totally new and almost zero background (just don't know where to start)

Yes. Case interview prep takes some time and it makes sense to start early on. You can find some tips below:

▶ How to Prepare for a Case Interview

4) There are different interview styles I guess, chatbot and case interview, should I prepare for both? or it is something that I need to decide at least after I get an actual invitation?

You can start to prepare for the case interviews now. For the chatbot, you can do so once confirmed you have to take the test. You can find some prep material below (full disclosure: I am the author ;).

Good luck!

If I want to follow up with HR, should I make a call? I am having a hard time finding any number or email contact to reach out to on their website. The email that I have from them seemed like an email that is used for an auto-reply or massive email response. does anyone have a tip for this?

Hi there, yes I would call if possible. You can use the general office number and then ask to talk with HR about your previous application, hopefully this will work. Best, Francesco

Hi there,

1. Is pymetric test for everyone who applied? ( just curious, if it is, I thought it would've been part of online application form but it was separate invitation with some time gap between)

→ not necessarily, in some regions experienced hires dont go through that

If it's not, does that mean my application passed CV screening?

→ in some regions the test may be part of the screening, but more often is for preselected candidates.

2. After the pymetric test, (I am not really sure I have done it well or not) how long does it take to hear back from them whether it's a rejection or an interview invitation?

If I don't hear back from them in 2weeks, does that mean I still have some chance? or it just mean I am out of consideration.

→ not really, the delay can be for many others things. I would recommend to reach out to HR and ask

3. If I still have some chance, should I start to prepare for the interview now? like case study and stuff? I am totally new and almost zero background (just don't know where to start)

→ YES absolutely, it is recommended to be ready for interview before sending CV!! Go ahead and if you pass the test I would recommend to ask HR to give you at least 1 months before your 1st interview so you have chance to prepare. It is fine to ask. I would recommend to get a coach to speed your prep.

4. there are different interview styles I guess, chatbot and case interview, should I prepare for both? or it is something that I need to decide at least after I get an actual invitation?

→ if you pass you should go for regular interview

Good luck!

Lucie

Hi there,

1. It honestly depends on so many factors (office, role, time period, recruiting channel etc.). I know you want to know, but this does nothing to change your situation  - try to worry about things that you can actually control (and, frankly, that affect you)

2. Anywhere from a few days to a few months. Unsatisfactory answer, I know. But you just need to wait. (And, by “wait”, I mean apply to 30 other companies because McKinsey isn't the end-all-be-all)

3. Yes. Please start yesterday. By the time you get the interview it'll be too late (you can't ramp up in time). In fact, you needed to prep before even applying. Please start in ernest now.

4. Everything about this comment concerns me. Interview styles refer to candidate vs interviewer-led. BCG cases are candidate-led.

The chatbot isn't an interview, it's an online assessment. You should not start preparing after you get notice.

Get case preparing now. If the chatbot comes, you can worry about that then (it's basically a case in GMAT format).

I would highly recommend coaching given what appears to be a situation where you are out of your depth and making poor decisions out of the gate (sorry to be so blunt).
