Hi, I’ve been prepping for several IB roles, but I keep hearing that Goldman interviews are “different.” Is that just about the technical depth, or do they approach behavioral questions in a unique way too? Would love to hear your experience!
Goldman Sachs interviews different from other banks?

Hey there!
Goldman tends to place more emphasis on behavioral questions than most other banks. The technical side still matters, of course, and you’ll need to be well-prepared there. But what really stands out is how deeply they explore your motivations, how you think, and how you handle pressure. It’s less about reciting a textbook answer and more about showing clarity, self-awareness, and strong reasoning behind the decisions you’ve made.
They’ll often dig into your answers with follow-up questions to see how consistent and thoughtful you are. For example, if you mention a past experience, they might ask why you approached it a certain way or what you learned from it. It can feel more conversational, but also more intense.
So overall, yes, the style is different. It’s not necessarily harder, but it requires a bit more depth and reflection. If you take the time to really understand your story and can explain your thinking clearly, you’ll be well prepared.
Hope this helps!
