Hi all!

Applied for a Business Analyst role with McKinsey, completed the first round of interviews last week.

Checked my dashboard and my application status, the job title has changed to Associate?

Completely new to this process, is this considered good news or potentially an error? It was definitely ‘Business Analyst’ last I checked.

Thanks

Hi there,

ASC is one level above BA, so it is definitely not bad news, however, still strange. Why?

  • If they “upgrade” you, they should notify you.
  • It might be an internal mistake (setting the checkmark in the wrong line-kind of error)

I would reach out to HR to clarify! :-)

All the best,

Florian

Thanks, thought it was odd that it was changed without any notification. Wasn’t sure if this was a ‘usual’ thing!

Hi there,

Q: Checked my dashboard and my application status, the job title has changed to Associate?

The associate level is the one above the business analyst position. If you have several years of experience, the might have considered suitable for that position instead. It is strange though that they changed it without notice.

If you have doubts about whether or not the position is correct, you can reach out to HR for clarification.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • It could be good news, indicating that you are being considered for a higher level position or it could be an administrative error.
  • Either way, I would advise you to reach out to the recruiting team to ask for clarification on the new role.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

This may be intentional or by mistake. Either way, it's not to worry about and a quick call to HR should clarify.

  • If you're a recent graduate/postgraduate without significant experience, it's likely to to be by mistake.
  • If you applied for a BA role with significant experience following your studies, it may be a deliberate adjustment.

Best of luck for the process!

Moritz

Hi there,

It's likely good news! Do you already have a number of years of work experience and a degree? If so, you were likely “borderline”  and your strong performance in round 1 moved you up. Well done!

Seems like they believe you should be applying to the level above the one you applied to.
