Email Recruiter After Applying?

Last year, I was given an interview by a firm, and was in contact with a recruiter during that process. After my rejection last year, the email encouraged me to apply again this year, so I did. Should I reach out to the recruiter I spoke with last year to let her know I applied?

Hi there,

Yes, you should reach out to the recruiter letting them know you applied already.

In the note, you can briefly highlight key professional achievements since the last time you interviewed. The main reason for this is to bolster your positioning and preemptively address any reservations they might have on your candidacy, if any.

Feel free to reach out for any further specific tips.

Great thank you, I will say that I already recieved an assessment that they send out, and completed it, would it still be of benefit to contact them?

Since you already took the assessment, it implies you passed initial screening so I don't think there's any potential upside to notifying the recruiter now.

Hi there,

Q: Should I reach out to the recruiter I spoke with last year to let her know I applied?

You can do so, but it probably won’t have any relevant effect, as referrals should ideally be provided by consultants before the application, and not by HR.

To increase your chances, I would rather look for a referral from a consultant to leverage before the application. If you have already applied, that’s not possible anymore for that firm, but you might do so for the other applications.

You can find some tips on referrals below:

Good luck!

Hi there,

sure you can do that - just to keep the person in the loop and have them hear it from you rather than just see your name on some file. However, since you already applied, this will just be a courtesy e-mail but it won't really give you any upside. In case you applied with an internal referral, that would give you upside for sure.

Best of luck

It's good to reach out to this established relationship to just let them know. As others have noted, connections are better established with consultants who can flag resumes, provide recommendations, etc.

Yes, you can reach out to them, write a note that you intend to apply, and underline how you improved your resume since your previous application.

Hey there,

Yes, that would be a good idea. There's no harm in that and it would be good to keep in touch
