Does it make more sense to apply via a referral link, or the link uniquely given to the students of a school

Say I have a referral from a partner, and also, my school is a taget, which has its own recruiting link - does it make sense to apply via that link or the link shared by the partner.

Okay tbh the partner link probably holds more weight, but what about a jr. consultant vs school?

Hi there,

A referral is always better than a school link, as it increases your chances of getting noticed and prioritized. Your school will still be considered when your application is screened, so applying via referral doesn’t diminish its impact. The only exception is if your school guarantees an interview slot—check with the recruiter if unsure.

Let me know if you need further advice!

Hello there,
If you have a referral from a partner, that will typically carry more weight than applying through your school's recruiting link. A partner’s endorsement signals internal support, which can significantly boost your chances of getting into the recruitment process. No wonder everybody wants one ;-)

Take advantage of this opportunity and good luck!

Hi there,

I suggest you apply via the referral link - Please also note that if you have already applied using a generic link (before you had someone refer you), let that person know and they can work with the recruiters to merge the two, so the referral is on your file.

Best of luck with your applications

Hey there,

So let's layout some general principles on this:

  • It's better to apply with a referral vs without one
  • A referral from a more senior consultant is holds more weights vs junior one
  • A referral does not replace the need for putting together a strong CV and profile

So with all that, I'd recommend applying with the referral link, and using the Partner vs jr. consultant

All the best

Hi there,

Q: Say I have a referral from a partner, and also, my school is a taget, which has its own recruiting link - does it make sense to apply via that link or the link shared by the partner.

The recruiting link from the school is not really a referral link – is the link that all your classmates will also use.

The link from a partner (or anyway, any consultant) is a proper referral link. For this reason, I would use the referral link of the consultant.

Good luck!

hey!

Using the partner referral link usually carries more weight because it represents a direct endorsement, which can be particularly beneficial even if you’re a junior consultant; however, if your school is a target, the school recruiting link might offer additional advantages, so both routes have their merits but the partner referral is generally more influential. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.

hi there, I would definitely recommend to go for the Partner's referral link, as you rightly pointed out that it carries more weight.

Also, the fact that the partner has shared the link with you, it would be better to follow his/her route and keep him/her in the loop. Don't make the person feel that you are passing his/her offer for a less appealing alternative... It is more likely that the partner can give you additional support during the process (even if it is just nudging the recruiting team to be more responsive), vs. a school link.

Emily

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, I wonder why you are ponding on scenarios that are not (yet) real. What is the reason for that?
  • Moreover, I would highly advise you to discuss such a situation, should it ever arise, with your university's recruiting representative to be sure.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming applications, pre-interview assessments and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

If you have a referral link, you should use that link in order to use the referral, which increases your chances of getting an interview.
