Thank you for considering me as your coach! I’ll get to the ‘sales-y’ stuff in a bit, but first let me share a bit about my recruitment journey so you have a sense of who you might be working with,
In 2010, I assumed I’d just got unlucky graduating into the financial crisis and that all my peers were facing the same trouble as me in the jobs market. I remember the despair I felt when opening McKinsey’s rejection email on the same day that I'd submitted my application! But when I returned to campus for my 1-year reunion, I couldn’t help but notice that plenty of folks had figured it out and had the jobs I secretly longed for. Had they just got lucky? After all, their resumes must have been just like mine: similar degrees, the same college, equivalent GPAs…
For a while, I thought it was just it as the randomness of life and committed to playing a numbers game and simply churning out apps. But after what must have felt like the 100th ding, a family friend put me in touch with a mentor. What they shared with me set me on a multi-year journey that culminated in the McKinsey offer phone call that I had wanted for so long. As your coach, I hope to impart what I have learned on my journey to support your career ambitions: you can have all the drive in the world, but you need someone to show you how to play the recruitment game.
