what can I do more?

Hey, I’m currently interviewing for the Healthcare Capabilities & Insights Analyst role in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. My background is mainly in healthcare and some analytics, but I don’t have formal business experience. I’ve been practicing case studies (including online sessions, though not very helpful), and I just completed my first interview (pair programming).

I'm waiting for the feedback; the next step will be a case study and a discussion about a technical project.

For someone coming from healthcare/analytics without a business background, what’s the best way to prepare and position myself for success in this round?

Hi there,

I do not have direct experience in this specific role, but from a coaching perspective the key for you is to translate your healthcare and analytics expertise into consulting language.

For the case study, keep practicing how you structure problems clearly. Focus on simple business drivers such as revenues, costs, efficiency, and growth. Even if your instinct is to dive deep into technical details, make sure you explain your logic in plain, business-oriented terms.

For the technical project discussion, pick one strong example where you had measurable impact and frame it using a structure such as Problem – Approach – Impact. That way, you show that you can not only run the analytics, but also explain why the results mattered for decision-making. This is exactly what consulting interviewers want to see.

A few resources can help you prepare effectively:

  • Case structuring: Case in Point (Cosentino), Victor Cheng’s Case Interview Secrets or his LOMS recordings to learn communication style.
  • Business fundamentals: Harvard Business Review Guide to Finance Basics for Managers, plus free courses like Corporate Finance Essentials or Business Strategy on Coursera.
  • Healthcare-specific insights: Open-access reports from McKinsey, BCG, or Bain on healthcare and pharma trends to strengthen your business context knowledge.
  • Storytelling for projects: Use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) or PARI (Problem, Approach, Result, Insight) to present technical work in a way that highlights business relevance.

With 1–2 weeks of focused prep using these resources, you can bridge the gap between your strong technical foundation and the business-driven communication style the role requires.

Hi there,

Since you’re interviewing for a Capabilities & Insights role, the bar is a bit different from a generalist consulting track as they’ll value your healthcare/analytics expertise and how you can apply it to problem-solving. So your background is a strength here.

Now for the fact that you don't have a business background, you need to prove in your case studies that you can translate your expertise into layman terms such that you can solve the case from a business perspective. Be careful to not use too much technical jargon and practice seeing things from a business point of view. Cram business concepts and terminology so that you can use them comfortably. As for everyone when solving a case study, demonstrate that you can be structured in your approach (how you break down the problem, prioritize, and communicate clearly).

In short: lean on your domain knowledge, show you can think in a structured way, and translate technical work into business impact. That combination will make you stand out.

Hope this helps.
