Recruiter Escalating After Interview Feedback

Just had a feedback call with the team that interviewed me. I appreciated the opportunity to share my thoughts on what went wrong during the interview and they were pretty receptive.

After they shared their own feedback, they agreed the interview didn’t go as it should have and acknowledged the concerns I raised were justified. They mentioned they will be escalating the issue internally.

Not sure what will come of it, but I’m glad I spoke up. Regardless of the outcome, not sure what I can expect from that.
Any thoughts?

  • First of all, it’s a good sign they acknowledged your feedback and agreed with your concerns. That kind of transparency is rare and suggests you handled the conversation well.
  • Moreover, when they say they’ll escalate it, it usually means they’ll involve the recruiting department to review what happened. It could result in anything from a second-chance interview to internal process changes - but no promises.
  • Lastly, I would advise you to stay in touch politely but don’t expect too much. Decisions can take time, and sometimes consulting firms escalate issues more to manage risk than to reverse outcomes.

Your message is a bit generic, so it is hard to understand what happened, what was the content of what you have said and what you expect out of all of this. If you could elaborate more, it would be great.

Have you passed this round? If you have, expect for the next interview - practice and use the feedback received to make sure you cover any gaps raised, as they will be probably tested.

Hi! Sorry I wasn’t very clear in my previous message.

I had my technical interview a week ago, and the interviewer started by saying there was no time for a behavioral interview, so we jumped straight into the technical case. However, I felt the case was poorly managed. The interviewer kept interrupting me and insisted that I follow their procedure, even though I understood that I was supposed to lead the case.

After the interview, I received an email saying I was no longer being considered for the role, but I was also invited to a feedback session. During that call, I raised my concerns about how the interview was handled. I was told that the situation would be escalated to the hiring manager.

While I’m not really expecting to hear back, I was wondering: is it common for consulting firms to redo interviews in cases like this?

Hi! I am so sorry for this experience. In your place, I would reach out to them to see if there is the possibility for you to redo the case and if not, if you can apply again in 6 months (the smaller cool down period possible). Good luck!!!

Depending on the issue, it may mean that they will address the issue internally and improve their internal processes, or that you may get another interview. Difficult to know which from the information I have.

This doesn't happen often. So what went wrong during your interview?

Basically, if I were you, I would just keep in touch with the recruiter. Perhaps they will give you a second chance to interview, though the probability for it is rather low.

Hard to tell based on the info shared without knowing what happened in your interview.

But as other coaches have shared, there’s some chance it could result in another interview or maybe just a change to their internal process going forwards

Sounds like you handled that really well. If the team is escalating internally, that usually means they took your feedback seriously and want to review whether the process was fair or aligned with standards. It doesn’t guarantee a redo or reversal, but it does open the door for a second chance or, at the very least, puts your concerns on record for future decisions.

The best thing you can do now is stay professional, patient, and positive, it already speaks well of you that you were clear and respectful. Just wait and see what comes out of the escalation.
