Is it normal to not hear back for about a month?

I interviewed at BCG on the third of August for a software engineer role, and I am yet to hear back regarding the outcome. I haven't recieved any offer, but no rejection or feedback either.

What could be the reason, and what should I assume

Hi, one month is too much, but it's not a clear sign of rejection. Feel free to call them without worrying about bothering them. They're there to help and they owe a feedback

Hi there,

To be perfectly honest it's not a great sign. That said, it's not a “no” just yet.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Never put all your hopes and dreams on one company…

Over the past month and moving forward you should be networking with and applying to dozens of firms. This is a numbers game.

Hi there,

Q: Is it normal to not hear back for about a month?

Sorry to hear that the waiting time was so long.

One month is a lot of time to hear back after a final and not normal.

I would call HR directly to ask for feedback. Unfortunately I don’t think you have leverage to do much more than that unless you have another offer to use to push things forward.

Good luck!

Francesco

This depends on location as some offices really slow down during August. Sometimes waiting a month may happen, but it is definitely above the expected timeline. Doesn't mean a rejection necessarily, but you should reach out.

Please note that MBBs always come back with an answer (but of course, mistakes happen).

A month is not ok - it doesn't mean anything, only that they're being really slow. Give the recruiting team a call and ask them when they'll be able to give you an answer.

Hello,

There's no need to assume anything if you haven't heard from them. The delay could be because people are out of office for the summer, they have a backlog of applications to get through, or the person who is supposed to reach out to you has been busy. At this stage, I would reach out to recruiting and ask for an update on your application. Best of luck!

Hi there,

I can confirm the timelines are hardly met, particularly if you are off-organized-wave recruit. The delay is usually given that all people that interviewed you must submit their feedback and this can take long as everyone's agenda is extremely packed, plus we are in summer, holiday season. So delay doesn't mean anything bad, it is just an organizational thing. Still, I would strongly recommend reaching out to HR and asking for an update and a new timeline.

Good luck

Lucie
