I have an interview with for an entry position at Bain & Co.'s PE team - do you have any advice on what to expect and how to prepare the best?

Hi,
For an entry position, they are much more interested in whether you can think like a consultant about an investment than whether you can build an LBO model. More broadly, I would expect a mix of PE-focused and other non-PE-focused cases (you will be tested on both).
I would therefore focus your preparation on standard case skills first, then add a layer of PE-specific cases, especially commercial due diligence and market attractiveness.
Also make sure you are comfortable answering fit questions such as why Bain? Why Private Equity?

For an entry level PE role at Bain, I’d prepare for a mix of classic case skills and PE specific thinking. I’d especially practice market sizing, profitability and commercial due diligence cases, where you need to quickly assess market attractiveness, growth, competition and the key risks of an investment.
I’d also make sure you’re comfortable interpreting exhibits and doing quick calculations, as PE cases can be quite data heavy. Finally, have a strong answer for why Bain PE specifically and why private equity.
