WannaT is a Digital First Fintech bank launched in the UK in 2015.
WannaT unique selling proposition reverts around digital customer experience and usability, as well as free for all banking for their basic banking product (no monthly fee) and no commissions on remittances and foreign exchange.
In 5 years WannaT managed to acquire 12 million customers across 37 countries in the EEA (European Economic Area), Australia, Canada, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan and the United States and they are progressively expanding their geographic footprint.
In 2020 they entered Japan and the United States.
The Senior Management team of WannaT is constantly exploring new opportunities for further geographic expansion of their business.
In particular, they are assessing whether to launch WannaT in Hong Kong, South Africa or China in 2021.
The New Markets entry team only has the capacity to implement entry into one of these markets, therefore you have been asked to determine which market you would priorities and why?
- How would you approach this problem “top down”? What analyses / framework would you use to make your recommendation?
- What would be your “answer first” to the management team? (e.g. which country would you pick?)
- How are you planning to present your “answer first” to the Senior Management team? (just share a few facts, no need to prepare slides or written material)
- What next steps do you propose to the Senior Management team?
