How to do deeper research on consulting firms?

Hey all,

Wondering about the possible approaches to learn about small nuances between different consulting firms in a specific market - for example, comparing the Greater China offices of Deloitte Consulting and PwC Consulting to learn about what type of projects they emphasize more on respectively.

Thanks!

Senior Manager @ Bain & Company, with 100+ candidates interviewed

Hi there,

I agee with the other answer. Best possible way is to reach out to people working for those companies and ask them for a quick chat.

It is important to also gather feedbacks from more junior resoruces since they would have a better sense of company's work-life-balance, working hours, ...

Besides networking with folks in your target office(s), here are a few tips:

  1. Filter the firm's website and LinkedIn for Partners in that office to understand which practice areas are most prevalent there
  2. Read thought-leadership (articles/white papers) posted on company's website or a Partner's LinkedIn profiles to see what topics they are chasing in the market -- this a business development tool

If you're having difficulty getting through to people on your networking outreach, consider working with a coach here to tailor your approach. I'm happy to discuss this in more detail.

Hi there,

Engage in discussions with current and former consultants of each firm, visit recruiting events and see how people interact with you and with each other -> best indicator to see how the culture is, and you learn a thing or two along the way!

Cheers,

Florian

To research consulting firms deeply, consider the following approaches:

  1. Speak with current or former employees: Reach out through LinkedIn to understand their experiences, work-life balance, and areas of focus.
  2. Explore public resources: Use platforms like Preplounge or firm websites to gather insights on culture, industries, and notable projects.
  3. Engage with recruiters or coaches: They can provide tailored insights on what firms emphasize and their unique practices.

Best of luck!
