Hi guys.

Hi there,
With 12 years of oil and gas experience, your background is highly valuable for consulting roles, especially in the Middle East. It’s unlikely you’d be considered for an entry-level role. Instead, you’d probably be evaluated for:
If you’ve worked with leading companies like ARAMCO, ADNOC, or other top players that frequently collaborate with consultants, I’d recommend networking directly with the partners who work with those accounts. A warm referral from someone familiar with your experience can significantly boost your chances.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like more guidance on preparing or positioning yourself.
Best of luck!
Oumar
With your level of experience in one industry, your best fit is as a specialist consultant.
The most likely entry levels for you would be associate or expert engagement manager.
Best,
Alberto
Hi Mohamed,
Do you mean expert track consulting roles or internal strategy roles at O&G companies? If the former, I would encourage you to network with partners in your target office(s) that work within that industry. They will be the ones making the call on the expertise needed within their practices.
I'd be happy to discuss positioning yourself with a compelling story, reflecting that expertise on a CV/cover letter, and preparing for the interview process (energy-specific cases and fit interviews). Until recently, I was a core member of the Energy practice at BCG and have worked on many cases in O&G (focused on decarbonization but with broader exposure to the industry).
Cheers,
Vini
Hi Mohamed,
With 12 years of experience, it depends on your experience.
I see three potential entry-levels:
Associate, Engagement Manager, or (Junior) Partner.
The most likely would probably be EM depending on your leadership experience and trajectory in the field.
I would need a bit more information to provide you with a tailored answer.
All the best,
Florian
Happy to help! By Engagement Manager, I meant a role at consulting companies, where you’d typically lead projects and manage client relationships. Your extensive oil and gas experience could also position you for an Expert track role, which focuses on your industry expertise.
If the chance of a referral is low, don’t worry - it just means you’ll need to put in extra effort to network strategically. Start by identifying consulting firms with strong oil and gas practices and reach out to partners and managers through LinkedIn. Highlight your deep experience and value in the energy sector. Even without a direct referral, showcasing your expertise and initiative can make a strong impression.
If you’d like personalized advice or support, I’d be happy to help through a coaching session - feel free to reach out if interested!
Best,
Oumar
