McKinsey reapply

Hello everyone,

I have applied through a referral at McKinsey. The person referred me in the system and I got a link to apply for the JA position.

I was rejected 4 months ago at the CV screening stage. I know the ban is 12 months but I have read on the forum that if you reject at CV screening stage then you can apply in 6 months.

Will they have a look at my application?

Also the person who has referred me does not know this.

Hi there,

Honestly, it's unlikely, though demand is very high right now so you might stand a chance.

The best way to find out is to simply ask the recruiter (and referrer). Please also don't lie to or mislead the referrer. You need to tell them that you applied and were rejected 4 months ago!

Hey there,

Would you need to demonstrate when you got rejected is a significant development in some of the areas below:

  1. Education
  2. Work experience
  3. Time abroad
  4. Extracurriculars

Usually, 6 months is not enough to progress in several areas. I have seen cases but these are rare. Additionally, for your re-application, I would look for another referral to increase the chances.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

The best way to find out is to just ask the local recruiter. It really depends where the guidelines are not as strict as many think. Having said that, you need also ask yourself, has enough changed in the last six months to justify why you should be invited for an interview this time round.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Unless they explicitly mention the ban is 6 months, it should be between 12 and 24, depending on the office and position you applied for.

The only cases where I know candidates have been able to re-apply successfully after 6 months in MBB are if:

  1. They were explicitly told to do so
  2. They applied to another office via referral

In your case, I believe the best thing is to align with the person referring you and explain the situation.

Maybe they will ask to wait a few more months, but better to have to do so than go on and risk a new rejection and have the person who referred you to find out on his/her own that you applied few months ago.

Best,

Francesco

Hello,

I would recommend reaching out to the recruiter to ask them. My guess would be that you have to wait the 12 months, but as others have said, it might depend on the office and the hiring demand right now, so it might be worth checking.
