Referral template strategy consulting

Hi everyone,

can you send me a template for a referral from a client.

I am applying for an international strategy consulting firm.

Many thanks,

best

Hi,

I faced a similar situation when I was reaching out for referrals for my MBA applications.

I think the best referrals are frankly written authentically - because they are done in the ‘voice’ of the author.

You could explain the context to your client and if they are senior enough they will know what to do.

All the best!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, directly asking for a referral, especially from someone you might not have a strong relationship with, can sometimes come off as inauthentic or transactional. I would advise you to first build a genuine connection.
  • Moreover, therefore, I would advise you to reach out, introduce yourself, share your aspirations, and ask for their insights or advice regarding the company or role you're interested in. If they feel a connection or see potential in you, they might offer a referral without you having to ask.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

As other colleagues say, it is not clear what you are asking. A template to ask for referrals? A referral tracker?

On the other hand, I am not really getting how you will use a client referral with an strategic consulting firm. Referrals typically come from current or alumni consultants.

Best,

Alberto

There's no standard template. Each referral is a unique referral… it should be customized for your strengths.

And if there is one, you will find it on Google. Please don't ask other people to google things for you.

Hi there,

I am not sure what exactly you're looking for. However, I do see that it's related to networking and getting endorsements from others, which in turn requires great verbal and written communication skills to invite and inspire such recommendations by others.

So here goes some well-intended and constructive criticism: seeing the way you communicate based on your above post, I encourage you to try out a more positive and elaborate approach that invites and inspires the kinds of helpful responses that support your cause :)

Best of luck!
Moritz

Indeed, referrals requires quite some networking. The relevance of such a referral differs quite a bit by firm and region you are applying for. Maybe you do not need one, where are you applying? Warm regards, Frederic

If you're looking for a simple template, then I suggest you ask ChatGPT to generate one.

It can even help you draft one that is according to the specifications of the job you're looking for.

But FYI, the referral actually needs to be written and submitted by the actual person who is referring you. And the more personal it is, the better. The same as with a recommendation letter you get from a head teacher when you apply for university.

Best,
Cristian
