McKinsey PSG

Hi - I took the McKinsey PSG last year when I applied for the summer intern position (was not invited for an interview). This year I'm applying for the full time position, but haven't been invited to take the PSG. Does your score retain for a certain time period? (I took the PSG last year around September).

Thanks!

Hi there,

It's hard to be definitive because different offices have slightly different rules. That being said, any results from your application for a specific position are generally not taken into account for another position.

For example: You fail the interviews for a summer intern position and get blocked from applying again for 12-18 months, but you could very well apply for the Associate position during that time, for which you wouldn't be banned because results are kept separate. This is closest to your case and happens quite a lot.

The question is as to why you weren't invited this time. My best guess is that they either haven't gotten around to your application yet (huge recruitment backlog at McKinsey these days) or that you simply didn't impress them enough with your application. However, I could be wrong and the office somehow mixes PSG results from applications for different roles.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you to hear back soon! Best of luck!

Hi there,

Q: Does your score retain for a certain time period?

Yes, the score is normally valid for one year. If they haven’t sent the invitation for the game, it could well be that they will use the past score.

Best,

Francesco

Hey there,

The PSG score is usually valid for 12 months. If you apply before that your - hopefully - improved resume + the old PSG are considered for your application.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Hi there,

The general rule is that the scores hold true for 1 year. So, if you are within that timeframe you would not need to take it again.
