Hi there,

Could you share a bit of detail on firm and role?

What I would expect is a mix of the following:

  • Motivation: Why are you applying to the firm/role?
  • Background: Can you confirm any details that aren't 100% clear?
  • Process: When are you available to interview, could you relocate, would you consider another role, etc.?

Hence, make sure you have your story straight! Wouldn't expect anything more than that (certainly nothing related to cases, if that's a worry).

Best of luck!

Hello, I am applying for a consultant role for a boutique firm. Thank you for your answer. Really helpful!

They should ask about your motivation, expectations and previous experience. Regarding experience it will be about where you worked, what rank, what you did - but not behavioral / “personal experience” questions (i.e., won't ask about examples of what you did in specific situations).

Hi there,

First, good luck!

(Side note: I can't help but notice you seem to be behind 3 identical “screening” questions today, just for different companies. You're overcomplicating things! You need to prepare in the same way for any screening call!)

  1. You need to be really clear on "Why consulting" as well as "why the company". You should also be ready with a resume walkthrough. More than that, you should be ready with questions of your own and be ready to talk through really any experience on your resume.
  2. Generally FIT answers are longer and more in depth. "Why consulting" would be 1 min in an interview and 20 seconds on a screening call. Additionally, you need to have personal stories prepared for the FIT interview but not for screening

Here are some questions to be prepared for: https://www.preplounge.com/en/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question

And here is a great prior Q&A: https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/mckinseys-phone-screening-case-9161
