Strategic Growth in Renewable Energy Technologies

Our Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) business is growing rapidly. As one of our key business areas at E.ON, the EIS business is shaping the energy transition of cities and industries. To capture the massive growth potential, especially given the acceleration due to municipal heat planning, we identified early on that the EIS business required a clearly defined Renewable Energy Solutions (RES) strategy to ensure green electricity supply for our customers.

Accelerating E.ON’s Grid Expansion for Renewables

The political ambition towards a rapid energy transition has increased sharply in recent years. Namely, the German government passed the "Easter Package" which effectively quadrupled the required expansion speed for renewable energies. After this announcement, another ECON project showed that the distribution grid will be the backbone of this transition and needs to be expanded much faster than previously planned. Therefore, the aim of Project Bob was to identify ways to "build better" and ensure that E.ON's distribution grid is expanded fast enough to make the swift transition to renewables possible.

In an era where the energy sector is rapidly digitalizing to keep up with growing demands and growth ambitions, E.ONs journey towards a fully digital company has already seen significant strides with cloud migration and data center closures. Now the Digital Technology teams across the E.ON group need to be enabled to elevate their value contribution through innovation, speed to market, and quality. This requires us to ensure that E.ON's IT is “fit-for-future” and augmented with the “state-of-the-art” technologies, capabilities and methodologies.
