Hello everyone,

there is soon going to be something called a “Group.Livestream” by BCG, which is online via Zoom and where you can get an insight in what the work itself and related things as a strategy consultant at BCG  are all about. Has anyone attended anything like this before and has therefore some helpful tips? How could I to use this opportunity to network to get an internship at BCG?

thank you!

Hi,

When attending any company's livestream it is great to think of how to network as part of the event. Here are some ideas to help you get started

Prepare for the Event: Before the livestream  research the event topic and speakers, and familiarize yourself with BCG's work and values. This preparation will allow you to engage more actively during the event.

Participate Actively: During the livestream, actively contribute to any Q&A sessions or chat discussions. Share thoughtful questions or comments that showcase your interest and understanding of the topic.

Follow Up with BCG Attendees: After the event, follow up with any BCG attendees you connected with during the livestream. Send personalized connection requests or messages expressing your appreciation for the discussion and your interest in continuing the conversation about potential opportunities at BCG.

Request a Referral: Politely and professionally ask if they would be willing to refer you for an interview at BCG, mentioning your attendance at the livestream event as evidence of your commitment and interest.

Highlight Relevant Skills: If you possess specific skills or experiences that align with BCG's needs, emphasize them in your request. Show how your background makes you a strong candidate.

Of course it is never as simple as laid out above but these are the basic steps towards getting a referral from events.

Best,

Udayan

Hi there!

These events are great opportunities to:

  • learn more about the firm and your target role
  • learn more about how to best prepare for the interview
  • meet other candidate that could turn into casing buddies
  • mention this in your cover letter to demonstrate that you've had a long-term interest in the firm

Don't expect however the actual event to directly increase your actual chances of passing the interview.

So once you've joined 1-2 of them, it's enough. It's best from that point onwards to focus on the actual interview prep or 1-on-1 networking to help you get referrals.

In case you're interested in referrals specifically, sharing with you two resources that might help:

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Not an opportunity to network (not really)

But you should attend (to learn)

This is not going to lead to your internship

Rather, you need to network extensively outside of these events. This is by sending the right messages to the right people and navigating those calls effectively.

Hi,

An event like this is more for the firm to explain what you can expect as a consultant and also market the lifestyle/career to you. It typically isn't meant as a networking session and I wouldn't think there is much time to have meaningful engagement during the session.

However you could potentially take note of the consultants who presented during the event and follow-up with them afterwards.

All the best!
