Hi
I work at boutique (no name) specialising in Life Sciences in London. I'm charting my career and weighing my options in consulting to understand options post-consulting.
It would be great if anyone with expertise in the industry, would be able to provide perspective and application strategy.
Please let me know!
Would anyone be able to offer long term career strategy advice in Life Sciences ?
Hi there,
At a critical juncture in your career where the decision impacts your future, why not invest in a professional to help you make the right decision?
Love the comments from the other people here, but honestly, a Q&A will not do justice to a serious career decision!
We don't know you and we haven't worked with you, so none of us are well positioned to tell you what to do. Just like you pay someone to do your taxes or manage your wealth (because it's a big deal)... consider paying a career coach. This isn't something to go "free" on.
I highly recommend investing in 1 to 2 sessions with a career coach to make sure you make the right choice!

Fingers crossed for you!
It's smart to be thinking long-term from where you are, especially in a specialized sector like Life Sciences from a boutique in London. While the 'no-name' label can feel like a hurdle, your deep sector experience is actually a significant advantage. Top-tier firms and industry players are constantly looking for talent with demonstrable expertise in specific domains, and Life Sciences is particularly hot right now.
The reality is, your path forward has a couple of strong routes. If your goal is to eventually move to a larger consulting platform (MBB, Tier 2), your niche boutique experience can be positioned as a value-add, especially if you target their dedicated Life Sciences practices. You're not just a generalist; you bring specific sector insights. Alternatively, you're building a strong foundation for an industry move down the line – think strategy, market access, commercial operations, or corporate development roles within biopharma, medtech, or even innovative health tech companies. Your consulting toolkit combined with real LS project experience is highly valued there.
Your immediate focus should be to double down on building a strong network within those target larger consulting firms' LS practices, and equally, among senior professionals in industry roles that align with your interests. Be clear about the specific types of projects you've worked on and the impact you've delivered, articulating how your boutique experience translates directly to their client needs or internal strategic priorities.
Hope this gives you some useful angles to consider. All the best!
hey there :)
makes total sense to think about this early, life sciences is a great niche with strong exits. best way is to speak to people who actually made the moves you’re considering, like consultants who went into pharma, biotech or PE, they’ll give much more practical insight than general advice
also try to get clarity on direction first, strategy roles in pharma, operational roles, or investing all require slightly different positioning, so your application strategy should follow that
and don’t hesitate to reach out to people directly, it’s very normal and usually well received if you’re concise and thoughtful
if you want, I can help you think through typical paths and what fits you best :)
best,
Alessa :)
I've worked with loads of life sciences candidates. Most are coming from PhDs / research / academic background and transferring into consulting, but others coming from completely different paths.
Happy to chat about that if useful.
Also, reach out to alumni from your university who have gone on this path and get an understanding from them as to what you can expect.
Best,
Cristian
