Vague Email from Mckinsey One Day After Solve

I attempted the solve game yesterday and got an email with the subject "Solve Score Request", they did not explicitly mention any score nor did I request for it, confused whether this is a rejection or just a system generated thing:

"Thank you for your recent request for your Solve score. As a reminder, our decision regarding your candidacy is based on a comprehensive review of your entire application to date. Your Solve score is not a standalone consideration; it is one data point of many used in our screening process.

Your overall Solve score is and your decile ranking is (1 low, 10 high).  Due to confidentiality reasons, we are unable to share any further information at this moment.

Thank you again for your interest in our firm and for the time you spent applying and completing our Solve assessment"

Hi Waleed,

That email is system-generated and not a rejection. McKinsey uses the Solve score as just one input, and some candidates automatically receive that “Solve Score Request” message even if they never asked for it. The key line is: “our decision… is based on a comprehensive review of your entire application to date. Your Solve score is not a standalone consideration.”

What this means:

  • The email is not communicating a pass/fail.
  • Your application is still under review by the recruiting team and office.
  • You’ll get a separate message if you’re invited to interviews or if you’re rejected.

In short, don’t read into it—it’s just confirming that Solve is one piece of the puzzle, not the decision itself.

Happy to help you prep – feel free to reach out.

Best,
Evelina
