Rejection from BCG

Dear all,

I applied for a position at BCG and got this rejection email

"We have reviewed your application in detail and regret to inform you, that we did not select you for the position at your preferred BCG offices.
We are confident that your knowledge and qualifications will help you find a position, that will fully match your interests and objectives."

There was no indication of any application ban, does that mean that I can re-apply? Also is there something to be understood from the last sentence of the email?

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

the general rule says to always contact the HR in situation where you don't know what the message means.

The ban period differs from office to office and from position to position, it can even be 6 months sometimes, but you need to find it out.

Btw, you can look up these Preplounge threads on how to reapply:

https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/re-applying-to-mbb-after-round-1-internship-rejection-mba-9011

https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/reapplying-what-to-do-differently-9045

Hope it helps! Let me know if I can help you further.

Cheers,

GB

Hey there,

The last sentence is purely automated, there is nothing you can learn from this. What you can influence is your chance to get to the interviews after some time again/

How?

Whenever you (re)-apply after a failed application (screening, aptitude test, or interviews) you need to make sure to show significant development in your resume since your rejection. Assuming you want to be hired straight out of university this means

  • New academic achievements (e.g., new degree, top of class achievements,...)
  • Experience abroad (career or university)
  • New job experience (internships, working student, project assistant,...)
  • New extracurriculars (leadership experience, NGOs, student clubs,....)

Usually, you are banned between 12 and 24 months from re-applying. Referrals can help both

  • shorten that time
  • increase your chances for a new invitation to the interviews

Cheers,

Florian

Hello,

The application ban will still be 1 - 2 years (depending on the office and position)

I would suggest that you contact the HR recruiter and get the reason for the rejection, so you can work on a profile if you want to.

You are welcome to contact me as a private message and I may already be able to give you reasons for the rejection and recommendations on how you can improve.

Kind regards,
Lukas

Hi there,

Little doubt that, even if you are not "officially" banned, you should not apply within the next year.

Your application was rejected...you will require at least a year's worth of experience, not to mentioned a revamped CV itself and networking, before it's even worth reapplying.

Look to get internships, promotions, training, etc. to boost your resume for the next attempt!

Hi there,

Agree with the other comments, you can reapply but only after 12-24 months, the exact period depends on the office and position. Sometimes it is possible to apply earlier with a referral but there are no guarantees.

The last sentence is a standard in the rejection email, I would not try to infer something from it.

Best,

Francesco

Do not interpret too much in those emails. Bottom-line: black-listed for 12-18 months and/or until you have shown considerable professional progress (academic degree, internships / employer etc).

Important to stay focused and dont let this drag you down too much - keep focusing on prepping and strategizing around the long-term!

Denis

Hi,

You can't reapply at least for 12 months. You should check the exact timeline with HR. This e-mail is just an automated one

Not for the same role or similar role.

The purpose of the wait is to give you time to improve your resume by adding relevant work experience and other milestones. If you re apply with a similar CV you will not have made any difference to the quality of your application and the result will most likely be another rejection.

Hello!

Sorry to hear that.. classical automated rejection.

The ban is usually 12-18 months, depending on whether you are student.

Hope it helps!

The rejection email is just an automated response where it will typically not mention the re-application ban. The period can vary by role and office but typically you will need to wait at least 12 months before you can re-apply but it's worth confirming with HR. The intention is to allow the candidate to gain more relevant experience and apply again with a stronger CV.

Hello,

This is an automated response and I fear that ban is still valid. Since they have crearly stated that "did not select you for the position at your preferred BCG offices", I would try to reach out to the HR asking if you may apply for other BCG offices in the world without waiting for the ban. Sometimes, if you don't start the process, the ban does not apply.

Best,
Luca
