Question about

Do the blue paragraphs in Background need to be directly communicated?

Or should the interviewer expect the interviewee to come up with those points via a "semi 3C's framework"

Hello there,

You are on point in mentioning that these points will come up during the discussions with the interviewer using a structure / framework as the basis for the conversation (in this case a semi 3C). It is very unlikely that the interviewer will convey all these information upfront.

Note that the candidates need not to be the one that comes up with all the information. In a real consulting work situation, our role are not as the content expert, instead we leverage the client's expertise by asking probing questions. As such, in this case, the candidates' role are to convey the structure they would utilize and the data that are crucial to be had, to provide clarity to the interviewer on what relevant information they should provide.

A candidate will often got several information during the initial clarifying phase right after the case prompt has been given at the beginning. The other elements are often being further explored after the candidate explain the structure they would like to utilize in order to better understand the industry and isolating the core issue as mentioned previously.

After all elements has been discussed, the candidate should summarize the current findings - hence, this becomes the elaborations as contained on the blue paragraphs in Background section.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Nathan
