Bain SOVA

Hi,

Does everyone receive an assessment invite? If you were to give a percentage, how many people receive the invite in a cycle?

Hi there,

This depends on so many factors that a number here would not change anything for you. The % changes based on

  • Offices
  • Regions
  • Times of the year and across years
  • Supply and demand
  • Role and level in the hierarchy

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • As the Bain Sova test is a standard pre-interview assessment, the percentage of people who need to complete it is most likely in the high 90s, if not everyone applying for a consulting position.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming Bain Sova test and Bain interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Did that help?

Facetiousness aside, please worry about the things that you can control

If you get the test, study for it. If you don't get it, don't study!

I would say the order of frequency of tests is McK Imbellus > BCG Chatbot > Bain SOVA.

Remember, if you're case prepping, you're already preparing for these (similar skills required).

If you do get the test, here are  some tips:

=========================

All of these online tests are very similar

Format? Somewhat. Content and what's required from you ability-wise? Not at all.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether is a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other...clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case-related and account formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance to questions) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction.

You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them.

Hi there,

There's no official or set percentage. These differ between offices, regions, roles and many other factors.

It's definitely good news that you got invited, that's for sure.

If I were you I'd start googling for practice resources and getting started.

Best of luck!

Hello,

I agree with the other coaches here. Focus on preparing for the assessment instead of worrying about the odds. All the best!

I believe that this is an intriguing query that may be pertinent for numerous individuals. I'd be pleased to discuss my opinions about it:

The percentage of candidates who must pass the Bain Sova test because it is a required pre-interview evaluation is probably in the upper 90s, if not for everyone applying for a consulting post.

You must be knowledgeable about several crucial case-related and accounting calculations (margin, growth, breakeven, etc.), be adept at critically evaluating the question (including its nuances), and be able to decipher complex content while being moderately distracted.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you want a more thorough explanation of how to best get ready for your next Bain Sova test and Bain interviews.
