Paid time off to look for a post-McKinsey role.
What is "Search Time" at McKinsey?

Hi there,
This is generally used when you're being pushed out. You're provided paid time off (no projects) to find a suitable role for you outside of the company.

Hey there,
When you are CTL'ed (counseled to leave) aka asked to leave in a polite way, McKinsey provides you with some paid time off to look for the next job (and often also provides you with resources + network).
This does not happen often at lower tenures and peaks around AP level.
Cheers,
Florian

Hello,
Search Time is a period of time you can use to take paid time off and look/interview for other jobs. By using it you are essentially declaring your intention to leave the firm (and you are expected to do so at the end of your search), but you are still getting paid, so it gives you additional time and flexibility to look for a new job. The amount of time you can take increases with tenure (and I believe it only becomes available after 1 year). I have generally seen people using it voluntarily because they want to transition out of the firm, though it seems like some of the other answers imply that it can be used for people who are counselled to leave too.
