Hi all,

I applied for a Mckinsey Networking event for women and they have  sent me the PSG game. However, I'm afraid that I might not do well and that might jeopardize me since I'm considering to apply for a job  in this year and you cant retake the test. I have read some materials but I'm just not confident yet. However, I have already scheduled for the test. Is it possible to just ignore or  cancel the schedule and that wont affect  my near future application or should I just continue to do the test.

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, please rest assured that recruiting events are being treated separately, even when it comes to potential pre-interview assessments that need to be conducted beforehand. As such, the downside risks are minimal for you.
  • Moreover, while I would highly advise you to properly prepare for the McKinsey Solve, every potential participant in the recruiting event will have the very same issues. Thus, I would highly advise you not to worry too much.
  • Lastly, if you would like to prepare for the McKinsey Solve in the most efficient way without spending larger sums on potentially realistic theoretical guides and simulations, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Q: Is it possible to just ignore or cancel the schedule and that won’t affect  my near future application or should I just continue to do the test

If they asked to complete the test to participate to the event, the only option you might have is to withdraw from the event participation, but I don’t think it is a good idea. Eventually you will have to take the test anyway, so I would rather fully prepare now to get the benefit of the networking event as well.

In my view, it is better to reschedule to when you are more confortable.

This is why:

  1. MBB understands that the process is not easy. I saw it happening with me and some friends that asked for more time before the interviews to prepare better. So you can let them know it
  2. It is important for you and the process to be confident. You will hardly feel 100% ready, but you need to feel that you put a lot of effort in it. It is the know “I gave my best”.
  3. Give your best. No matter how much time you have, really dedicate yourself into it. That acknowledge yours constrains as well like work, personal life and wellbeing.

I hope I helped, happy to discuss further more if needed.

Best,

Vitor

Hi Vitor, Thank you for the response, The game is just for a women networking event and not for interviews and I cant reschedule as they have stated that the closing date for the game is 13th March. Is it advisable to cancel the game, is it even possible to do so? and if I cancel, will that affect my near future application ? I would rather miss this event and actually have enough time to prepare for the game for the real interview.

You can ask them about the possibility to cancel, but it shouldn't jeopardize your application. Having said it, knowing the people and networking will probably add more value to you than 3-4h of study by yourself.

Hi all,

I would highly advise to take the test. It is the same situation for every applicant to the women's event. Take enought time to properly prepare and you should be good. Once you have done it, it is valid for your job application and you do not have to re-do it.

Best regards,

Andreas
