I had a final round in Mckinsey. Two days after my interview I was told that I have to take an additional interview because I didnt do so great as per the ‘fit part’ if at all the partner is ok with it after the discussion with other interviewers.

Surprisingly the recruiter did not get back to set up that round.I reached out to the recruiter but didn’t respond to me yet either.

It has been 1 week since my final round .Is Mckinsey ghosting me? Should I think this is a way of them telling me I am rejected?

PS. though the application status on portal is ‘In progress’.

Hi there,

This is pretty typical these days, I'm afraid. McKinsey used to be extremely good at keeping people informed, but this hasn't been the case lately for obvious reasons.

There's a lot of movement with many people exiting/being exited and delayed new hires, etc. Recruiting has a really tough job at the moment to keep the pipeline organized. However, I am positive that the call will come if they say so. It has been the case with all the people I work with, as they all got called eventually.

If PEI is what they will be focusing on, I really recommend you to write me a message and get some coaching. I can really help you here as all my mentees generally get great feedback for their PEI, which makes them stand out. You're so close!

Best of luck and perhaps speak soon!

Moritz

Hi again,

No, they have not ghosted you.

In order to set up an additional final round they need to find a partner to conduct it. Partners usually have very limited availability so that may be causing the delay.

They will get back to you with an official decision 100% as the processes at McK are very strict and they don't ghost candidates.

Hi there,

Very honestly, it's possible.

It might be that they felt you were borderline, opted to give you a second chance, but have now decided otherwise.

That said, I would say it is also likely they are just having trouble finding time for the Partner to bring you in.

Regardless, you need to be interview preparing like there is no tomorow. Get a coach to fix your PEI (please don't make the mistake of risking your entire career thinking “I can do this myself”).

In parallel to fixing your PEI with a coach, also keep networking with and applying to other firms.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Good luck to you

Hi,

It could be possible that McK changed their mind after your final round. This is likely because they found other candidates that performed better or they have already filled their quota.

However, the more likely scenario is that it takes time to set up a final round interview given schedules and they will get back to you when that is set up. You can reach out to them again if they do not reply. As long as it is a polite email, everyone understands why you are doing so.

Best,

Udayan

Hi,

I wouldn't say they have ghosted you nor does this mean this is a rejection.

There couple be a multitude of reasons why they haven't gotten back to you - including a possibility that their process has lapsed (unfortunately this happens even to the biggest/best firms).

I would wait another week and then follow-up politely with the interviewer.

Until the decision has been communicated to you - nothing is final.

All the best!

Hi there,

Q: Is McKinsey ghosting me? Should I think this is a way of them telling me I am rejected?

If they said you would have an extra round, I would not worry about it not taking place. Most likely, there is a delay due to a lack of available partners.

If you don't hear back from them after one week from the previous follow-up, I would recommend calling HR to ask for an update

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there!

I really doubt they are ghosting you.

Most likely the recruiter didn't get the chance to respond to you. They have no interest in losing if especially since you got this far.

Best of luck with the new round! In most cases that I've seen this extra round converted into an offer. Hope it goes the same way for you.

Best,
Cristian
