Digital Cases

Hi all,

I have an interview at BCG Digital in a couple of weeks. They let me know that I will probably have a digital-specific case. Does anyone know where I can find practice digital cases? They seem pretty sparse from what I've found.

Thank you!

Hi Henk Baarsjes (again),

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • Preparing for a digital-specific case interview can be challenging, as these types of cases are not as common as traditional business cases. However, it's important to note that digital cases often have an economic ambition such as cost cutting or revenue generation, so practicing with non-digital case studies can also help you prepare. Here are a few resources where you can find practice digital cases to help you prepare for your BCG Digital interview:
    • PrepLounge: PrepLounge is THE platform for case interview preparation. They have a library of cases that includes digital cases, as well as access to other candidates who can provide feedback and practice solving digital-specific cases as well.
    • Management consulting forums: There are several management consulting forums online where candidates share their experiences and provide tips on how to prepare for case interviews. You can search for digital-specific case interview resources on these forums.
    • Casebooks: Casebooks are a good resource to prepare for digital cases, they are a collection of case studies and frameworks that can be used to prepare for case interviews.
  • It's important to keep in mind that while digital-specific cases may be less common, the economic ambition behind digitization is often similar to non-digital cases, and therefore practicing with other types of cases can also be beneficial.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Top US BCG / MBB Coach - 5,000 sessions |Tech, Platinion, Big 4 | 9/9 personal interviews passed | 95% candidate success

Hi Henk,

Make sure you're ready for a generalist case and a tech/IT case. Also be prepared to be asked quite detailed questions that test your expertise (brainstorming-like questions)

My strong suggestion is to 1) Learn how to framework 2) Learn/read the main digital/IT topics on Dloitte Digital, BCG Platinion, McK Digital etc. websites 3) Tie both #1 and #2 together in digital transformation cases...ideally with the help of a coach.

Now, I know it's hard to get resources on this - there isn't much! That's why I created a number of cases (and a lot of preparation material around this. Feel free to reach out for support (I've helped countless candidates in this area).

Here are 3 tech/IT cases (BCG digital related) I created to help:

Congrats. I know CaseCoach has a few good ones on Digital Transformation but, as you identified, they are less common that other types of cases. You should have access to them as part of your BCG application.

Digital cases, though, are not too dissimilar from other cases where you need to define a business process / understand a new technology, and diagnose if it is worth applying the new technology and where in the business process.

The case To Automate Or Not in the 2018/19 Darden case book is similar to this. If you want to do a digital specific mock do reach out.
