CV for MBB strategy consulting (BCG). Application for a Virtual Academy Session "The Group.Livestream" and Internship in Germany.

Hi everyone,

I'm applying for the upcoming Virtual Academy Session "The Group.Livestream" at BCG in Germany and an internship at an MBB firm, preferably BCG in Germany. Here is my CV for your review.

Is my CV good enough for the Virtual Academy Session? I could only find the description in German.

Is my CV also good enough for an internship at an MBB firm? It's 1.5 pages long, and I'm not sure which bullet points to cut. I'm only applying for German offices.

Thank you for your help and for taking the time and the effort :)

Hey,

I speak from experience as I'm an engineer myself who got recruited for BCG Germany.

3 things are important: Grades, international experience, internships.
1. Your grades are not great certainly, but as an engineer they dont need to be 1.X.
2. If you do, please showcase international experience (internships, year abroad, etc.)
3. Internships - looks like you got this covered.

I suggest you include your Bachelor/Master thesis and its grade (if good) and replace the “Top 5% in a particular course”. It sounds like you were cherry-picking for some top achievement.

Your CV has a good length. I suggest you add even some more details/accolades to your hobbies. They are quite generic - stand out!

Viel Erfolg!

Thanks! I was cherry picking some top achievements to compensate for the not so ideal overall GPAs. I am still slightly inclined to keep them on the CV. By the way, I already did include my Bachelor thesis. Do you think I should include it in another section? Danke sehr :)

Hi there,

overall, your profile has good potential and chances to get invited to the event - it seems you have good and relevant corporate work experience, academics, extracurriculars. In terms of the firms' main screening criteria, i'm missing some international exposure, so you may want to weave that in to the extent possible.

Now in terms of how the CV is written, I see quite a bit of upside potential across sections - it's 40-50% of where it could be. Suggest you get some advice / help on how to optimize that - not just for the event, but especially for the application phase. Your chances on getting interview invites will largely depend on that, as your general profile is promising.

Feel free to reach out, if you'd like to know more on how to optimize.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Andi

Thank you very much for your reply! It was quite encouraging and I am definitely planning to take some form of a coaching, especially for the official application phase. :)

Hi there,

At a quick glance your background seems suitable - the best way to find out is to apply!

You should definitely aim to bring it to 1 page, but, honestly, you may not have to cut out anything. Work to reduce the spacing between sections/roles and consolidate/combine bullet points. You can remove high school as well.

Hi there!

You have cool experience and a strong background.

But the CV is only 50-60% there, i.e., it's average in terms of how you're presenting and communicating your experiences.

So you have an ok chance with it passing as is, but if you want to make it a certainty, plus if you're planning on applying for consulting roles afterwards, it's worth considering doing an actual professional review. It's the best ROI you're going to get.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

Sharing a couple of high level pointers from a quick glance:

  1. Quantification of impact / results can be clearer / sharper
  2. Some bullet points don't have enough ‘meat’ to fully reflect the ability/skill you are trying to show
  3. Can reduce some sections/bullets to try and squeeze your CV into 1 page

All the best!

Hello,

My quick feedback is that your background is suitable, and your internship experience is good. I think there is some room for tidying up formatting, and you should definitely bring the resume down to 1 page. I’d highly recommend doing a full-length resume review to go through all the points in detail – feel free to reach out if you would like to schedule one.
