Accenture Strategy vs Simon-Kucher & Partners

Hi everyone,

Which firm is the better career choice in terms of exit options: Accenture Strategy vs Simon-Kucher & Partners?
Furthermore, how dou you view working in the strategy departements of the big 4 vs MBB?
By exit options I mean a transition to MBB or a change to industry.
Side note: The relevant geograpy is Germany/Switzerland/Austria.

Thank you.

Simon-Kucher is a boutique firm, focused in Revenue and market growth whereas Accenture is a general strategy firm. If you want to focus on marketing, sales, etc choose Simon-kucher.

In general I would say Accenture is better to move to MBB, however in Germany Simon-kucher is strong, so not sure about it...

MBB is the ivey league of consulting: better clients, better colleagues, more demanding, prestige...

Hey there,

It's not easy to answer this without knowing more about you, your background, your interests, your core strengths, what you want for your career, etc etc.

At a high level, i recommend you consider the following when making a decision on choosing between these companies:

  • Balancing short term vs long term benefits
  • Alignment of your interests, motivations, experiences with the opportunities each of the companies will give you
  • Which one it a better fit with your values and can offer more of the lifestyle you want to have
  • Exit opportunities into industries or companies you want to work for. Closely linked to this could also be the brand strength difference and the impact the Firms / companies will have to YOUR profile and CV
  • Enjoyment of the work they actually do

So as you can see, the answer will be extremely nuanced and highly relevant to you.

Hope this helps!

All the best

I would say Accenture gives you better exit options in general, because it is more global and tech focused which is becoming more and more important also in consulting.

Answering your question on working in strategy departments of big 4 vs. MBB: If you are lucky to have the choice, definitely MBB. Higher pay, top people to work with, more prestige, better projects, and also better exit options.

What about Big 4 strategy departments (Strategy&, Monitor Deloitte) vs Tier 2 consulting firms (OW, RB, ATK)? Are exit opps and prestige similar in Europe?

Thanks for your answer. And vs Tier 2 like OW, RB, ATK? Is there a difference in prestige/exit opps?

I know big 4 strategy depts mainly focus on strategy projects so I guess their consultants are able to get numerous relevant experience in short period of time compared with these Tier2 that do a lot of implementation

Simon Kutcher will be more focused on marketing and sales, while Accenture Strategy deals more with proper strategy work. I am not sure about the salary differences.

If you are thinking of exit options to MBB, Accenture Strategy is your go.
