KPMG Pakistan - TAX

Hi,

Just joined KPMG Pakistan for an internship & apparently if I behave, there might be a full-time offer at the end. 🤞

I’m a fresh law grad with solid courtroom experience (litigation was my entire personality for a bit). During the interview, the manager said he was “impressed but concerned” about how I’d adapt to corporate life, which is kinda the same thing my therapist says, so slay I guess?

Anyway, I thought I’d be getting into Advisory because I want to end up in management consulting, but surprise, I’m in Tax, which I’ve now learned is just a cooler name for corporate law vibes with a side of advisory.

Now pls help me out:

• What do I expect here?

• Do interns get paid or are we in this for character development?

• Any benefits? Do they provide gadgets or I have to take my own personal laptop 🥲? Welcome kits? Branded mugs I can subtly flex on LinkedIn?

• And if you’ve worked in tax (corporate law) at KPMG, tell me everything — the good, the bad, and the Excel sheets.

Also yes, I am the kind of person who gets emotionally attached to company swag, so if there’s a tote bag with a KPMG logo, I will cherish it forever.

Thanks in advance to the corporate ppl for the guidance 🤍

Haha. Well, congrats, first of all!

Actually, lots of your questions can only be answered properly by somebody who is in KPMG Pakistan because these things tend to differ a lot from office to office.

My recommendation is to reach out to some new joiners (<2y of tenure, they will be more like to respond and engage) and ask them some of these questions. From my experience, people want to be helpful and they'll reply, but it might not be the first person you reach out to.

This guide might help as well in terms of how to source these contacts via LinkedIn:

Hey there :)

First off, congrats on the internship, love your energy! Tax at KPMG Pakistan is definitely more "corporate law with numbers" than classic consulting, but it can be a great stepping stone if you want to pivot later. You’ll probably work on compliance, advisory for multinational clients, and maybe some research-heavy tasks. Expect a good amount of Excel, but also client exposure depending on the team.

Interns are usually paid (modestly), but worth checking directly with HR. Benefits like laptops or kits vary by office, but don’t count on gadgets—most interns use their own. Some offices do give out branded goodies though, and yes, mugs and totes are real and flex-worthy!

It’s a different pace from litigation, but you’ll pick it up fast. Be curious, professional, and always volunteer to help. If you show potential, they really might offer you a full-time spot!

Hello there,

I hope other coaches can help you, but I believe this question is best suited for other websites where you can find more people with KPMG Tax experience. Try Glassdoor reviews and Reddit and Quora forums.

About the salary and benefits, reach out to HR directly. Let’s see if you can get those swags too, but do not mention it, obviously 🤭

Additionally, you can reach out to other interns in this area through LinkedIn to solve your questions.

Best,

Mari

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the internship offer from KPMG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, since I don't know much about tax advisory, I would strongly advise you to reach out to your future colleagues or other professionals in this field.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to check your internship contract to learn about your compensation. You will certainly be provided with the necessary technical equipment for data security reasons alone.

Best,

Hagen

Hey,

I would second the suggestions above to try and get hold of someone in KPMG Pakistan's tax advisory practice to answer these questions.

There is substantial variance by geography for the things you mentioned above.
