DACH: Tier 2 -> BCG

Hi all,
I’d appreciate some perspectives from those who’ve faced a similar choice or have experience in the DACH market.

I’m currently at a Tier 2 (~Strategy&, Kearney, Wyman) in the DACH region at the Senior Consultant level. I’ve been with the firm for several years, have consistently strong performance reviews, and have built a great internal and client network. Based on my current trajectory, I will be promoted to project leader in 2026.

I’ve received an offer from BCG DACH at the Consultant level (equivalent to my current role), with possible promotion to project leader expected in ~1–2 years. The work would be similar to what I do now, but with the advantage of a stronger global brand, more strategic client work, broader opportunities, and a larger network. I’m very grateful for this offer, especially given the challenging market conditions right now.

Question:
Would you take the BCG offer now for the brand, learning opportunities, and long-term upside - or stay at my current firm to continue your strong career trajectory and further leverage your existing network and stable environment?

Personally, I’m leaning toward accepting the BCG offer because of the stronger brand, the more strategic project portfolio, and the value of the BCG network. I know my firm‘s strengths and weaknesses well at this point, and a move feels exciting after this long period at my current firm. MBB has always been my goal, and I think I’m ready.

Happy to receive your opinion.

Hello and congrats!! I would personally take it for sure. Not only for the experience but because when you’re ready to leave consulting, I’ve seen a lot of differences of the type of role (and salary) of consultants coming from MBB versus not. Even if you don’t stay long, it’s totally worth it!! Plus your colleagues will understand for sure :)

1+1 offer in August | ~10yrs in consulting | ex-BCG Project Leader | Personalized prep & coaching | INSEAD MBA

Hi,

congratulations on the offer! BCG is a great place to be, so I would agree with you leaning toward accepting the offer.

Question to you, do you know at what Consultant level (C1 or C2) you will come in? This will drive the timeline to PL a lot.

Best,
Lukas

Hi there,

Congrats on the offer! Given your strong track record and goals, I’d recommend taking the BCG role. The brand, strategic projects, and network will open more doors long-term—even if it means a lateral step now. It sounds like a great move to accelerate your career and keep options open.

One thing to keep in mind: be aware that you’ll need to prove yourself again and rebuild your existing network from scratch. If you feel confident in quickly building a new network and demonstrating your skills under new circumstances, then moving forward makes sense. Just be sure to consider this before making your decision.

Cheers,

Kevin

Congratulations!

I think taking the offer would potentially give you better and more options in a few years, should you decide to explore more opportunities outside of consulting. If I were you, I will take it.

Best,

Emily
