Could I have a CV review?

Hi Guys,

I was really worried that my CV may not be good enough at all for MBB and I have no one to turn to for an objective answer? Could someone please let me know how likely I am to pass the initial CV screening?

Hi there,

Not a bad start! But it's not there yet. I have the following feedback:

  1. You are far too “sentency”. Try to get rid of things like “Marketed and ran an event well enough, that, at its peak”. You need “resume speak". It needs to be more concise, professional, and not so casual/colloquial
  2. Improve formatting - you could have a stronger overall template (leveraging Italizing, dates on RHS, etc.)
  3. Extracurricular should be formatted as actual roles/experiences
  4. Cut your summary paragraph at the top
  5. Do Company then role. Don't do “xx job AT xx place”…again too colloquial
  6. Make sure you're showing true impact. For example, we don't care that you networked with a bunch of people as a founder…we want to know how many partnerships you won/signed, # of sales, # of follows, ROI, etc. What did you actually do and what was the impact?

This is just a quick/free review but hope it helps!

10+yrs recruiting & BCG Project leader

Hi there,

overall the CV is well structured and is clean. It seems you have interesting profile with start ups, good extra-curriculum track.

the CV screening is the step with the lowest chances (<5%) to pass (of all steps in the recruiting process)  and from my recruiting and coaching experience, most, even brilliant candidates fail to have a strong CV. For that reason, investment in CV coaching usually has one of the highest rating (as they serve also for any future job).

Now what can be yet improved.

Exec summary is your hook, it should be a bit more specific, not just filled with cool key words. e.g. "Succesful founder of a start up…"

Job experience: Must convey what impact you have created (not a shopping list of tasks). In addition explain what type of the company, industry, positioning… you worked/set up (e.g., The largest furniture Retailer seller in Spain).

there could be a bit more, but to give you the most important feedback.

MBB looks for a candidate, that has the following capabilities: leadership, ability to make an impact, problem-solving, communication skills, teaming up, flexibility and open minded.

In the end, it is not important where you come from, as long your CV tells us you do have these traits.

Please feel free to reach out if you would like to have support from the “other side”.

Good luck,

Lucie

Hi there,

Lots of great feedback below.

Reach out and I can give you a few examples of sanitised CVs from previous candidates who passed the screening so you know what good looks like.

Best,
