Advantages of applying via Headhunter for MBB?

Hi all,

I have +4 years consulting experience and an headhunter approached me for a new position (Senior Consultant) at MBB.

What is the advantages I have working together with the headhunter?
I mean I also could directly apply for position without the headhunter.

Thanks!

Hey there,

Think of it as a high-value referral for very specific roles or urgent roles to fill. If offered, definitely go down that route as it will almost guarantee an interview invitation.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

The headhunters provide an initial screening for consulting companies, so if they present someone the company pays more attention.

Since it is the company that is paying the headhunter and not you, it totally makes sense to benefit from the headhunter intro, instead of just applying online without any intro/referral, as you will increase the chances to be selected.

Best,

Francesco

Hi, it helps only in the first step of getting the invitation and accelerating the process. Then at the interview stage no further advantages

If a headhunter has approached you then you have a guaranteed shot at having your resume reviewed and a very decent chance of being invited to interview as the headhunter is asked to look at very specific profiles for which you are a match.

I would work with the headhunter to streamline your process. It does not in any way impact the likelihood of being hired. However that being said, MBB only used headhunters when roles that are in high demand but for which not many applicants have the right background so overall the odds of getting in are slightly higher.

External recruiters/headhunters are usually used by MBBs to fill very specific roles or to source more "atypical" profiles (e.g., diversity hire, specific industry/functional experience, etc.). If that is you than, having a headhunter pushing your profile can only be an advantage. They are definitely incentivised to do so.

If you are looking more for a generalist consultant role, then the networking and referral could also be meaningful where at least you have direct contact with the MBB recruiters.

Hi there,

I agree with Ken - it is only a good thing to have someone who speaks to MBB regularly push your application!

It's less beneficial than a referral, but it's more beneficial than a cold application!

TLDR: Use the headhunter
