Two referrals to BCG - problem ?

Hi everyone,

I networked with two people at BCG and both of them submitted a referral for me. it happened accidentally as I wasn’t sure one of them would refer me. Now I am going to submit my application and I am worried maybe I will be in trouble as I have two referrals. Any thoughts please? Thank you!

Hi there,

Q: I networked with two people at BCG and both of them submitted a referral for me. Now I am going to submit my application and I am worried maybe I will be in trouble as I have two referrals.

There is no problem with that. The only consequence is that if there is a bonus for a successful referral (meaning, if you are hired), the second person referring you most likely won’t get the bonus.

Good luck!

Hello A,

Having two referrals from different people at BCG is a problem, quite the opposite I would say.

When you submit your application, BCG's recruitment team will most likely review both referrals and take them into consideration during the hiring process. Having multiple referrals will work in your favor, as it demonstrates that you have a strong network and that multiple individuals are willing to vouch for your skills and qualifications.

Having said that, I would suggest that it is a good idea to be transparent with the partners and let them know that you have multiple referrals. This will help to avoid any confusion or potential issues down the line because one of them will not get the bonus.

Best of luck!

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, whether technicalities allow two people to provide a referral or not, I would highly advise you not to worry about it anymore. While it seems that there was some miscommunication involved, which you should avoid during your next interactions, there is no need to act anymore.
  • However, I would highly advise you to clarify that you may apply via the regular recruiting website and not via a specific link sent from one of the people who provided a referral, since, unfortunately, there seems to be no uniform global standard.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

That's a nice problem to have.

Rest assured - there will be no trouble.

They will just ask you to submit one application and since you've had strong referrals you're very likely to pass screening.

Best,
Cristian

Many referrals is a good thing not a bad one! It shows that many people think you will be a good fit for the role.

Ahah. Why do you think having two referrals is a problem? Maybe it is a waste (so many people without referrals and you have two….) but it definitely is not a problem.

“Oh, looks like way too many people like this candidate…”

This won't be a problem at all, it just means that you have two people who are willing to vouch for you! Consider it a blessing!

Good luck!

Hey, I don't have specific personal experience in such a situation, but I don't think there are any disadvantages to having more than one referral.

Good luck!

Hello,

Not a problem at all - if anything, this will only benefit your application!
