Hi All,

Are there simulation games for the McKinsey assessment? Or the game company equivalent versions.

Looking to get some practice in.

Hi there,

There are indeed! There is a site that sells a demo for around $300. Shoot me a message - happy to send you a link.

Some games can help you prepare for an interview - tower defense games are your best bet for the 2nd game. Gugan Frontier is good for the first round.

This resource for Francesco is great if you're willing to pay a bit:

Hey there,

Yes, there are games that are very similar to the Solve game, specifically for the tower defense game:

If you want to practice similar games I'd suggest the following:

Eco-system creation:

  • Plague Inc
  • City builder games  (might be overkill to play though if you don't have enough time)
  • Civilization (might be overkill to play though if you don't have enough time)

Tower defense:

  • Tower Duel
  • Kingdom Rush
  • Plants vs Zombies

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

You can't actually play it in advance. That's the catch and that's why McK went from PST to the Solve game. They wanted to eliminate the possibility that some could overtrain and then skew the results.

There are some videos on Youtube you could have a look at and those should give you an initial perspective on it.

What you can do however is get a coaching session on Imbellus to guide you on your preparation for the game. Aside from this, you can basically train for cases, since it's basically testing more or less the same skills.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you need support! I'm preparing a couple of other candidates at the moment for the game.

Hi there,

Yes, you can find a video simulation at the link below (full disclosure: I am the author ;):

https://www.preplounge.com/en/shop/tests-2/imbellus-combo-guide-videos-68

This includes:

  • 15 videos showing how to crack the Ecosystem Game in 23 minutes (instead of the recommended 35) and resist 25+      turns in the Plant Defense
  • Automated Excel with Formulas to build a chain in 16 minutes
  • PDF guide with all the 5 game scenarios and how to crack each of them (and not just the common ones)

If you have any additional doubts, you can contact me for free and I will reply within 12 hours.

Best,

Francesco

Hi!

You cannot experiment with trial games of the Imbellus.

There are similar games online of course but the greatest impact would come from a tailored coaching session on Imbellus.

Don't hesitate to reach out if interested.

Best,

Anto

I would suggest the PSG Simulation from MConsultingPrep, if you have the money to spend.

I have actually paid for the McKinsey PSG Simulation of MConsulting Prep and took the real test a week ago. Let's say, their simulation is 85% somewhat similar to the real one in terms of game mechanism, difficulty and configuration.

  1. Mechanism (90%): I think it is quite common knowledge now on any prep resources about the rules of Ecosystem and Tower Defense game. This Simulation also did well on that dimension. Furthermore, because it's a simulation, your score will show up right after you submit the food chain or once you finish your 3 maps. And to be clear, this is the performance score (not the process score).
  2. Difficulty (85%): In general, their simulation is a bit more challenging compared to my real test.
    • Ecosystem Building: The ecosystem in the Simulation is sometimes with the odd shape of eating hierarchy & requires you to consider much about the eating sequence, while the chain I built in the test was independent sub-chains that made up 8 species-chain. However, the name of species in the real test is more complicated, which takes you more time to take note.
    • Tower Defense: Their test resource is quite rich, by that I mean the diversification of defenders and maps. It does much to sharpen your mindset and help you draw out the optimal winning strategy for this game. In the real game, two of my most damaging defenders were only allowed to place on forest or rock. The last defender with the largest range was only available on forest terrain, which clustered far away from the center. And thankfully, I had prepared for that.
  3. Configuration (80%): This is too detailed but the actual game is in pseudo-3D while the simulation is 2D, but honestly, I don't think it makes much difference.

To conclude, $200 is a big investment (for me), but it's reasonable as it seems MConsultingPrep is the only one who provides PSG Simulation on the market.

The note here is that while I was impressed by their 20 mins video, they also provide the Strategy Guidebook in the package, but it’s worth more if you can contact them on Facebook for further advice. The guy who supported me was smart and qualified enough to help me build the strategy. By the way, I managed to set up the sustainable food chain within 12 mins and all passed with around 30 turns/map.
