Hi all,

I recently applied for the business analyst intern role and took the Imbellus test a few days after that. However, that was about 3 weeks ago now, and I have not heard back.

Does this mean I am likely out of the running, or is it still possible to receive a first-round invite at this point? I also am considering reaching out to a recruiter next week.

Hi,

I'm in a similar place, I applied for full time BA and did the Imbellus test exactly 2 weeks ago, still haven't heard back. I reached out to the recruiter earlier today and no response yet. I was told that the feedback time depends on the offices you applied to, so not sure if that makes a difference. Out of curiosity, which offices did you apply to?

Hm I applied to NY, but have seen people get them for full-time on WSO. Not sure if it varies by school tho

Hi there. 3 weeks is fairly long response time for MBB. However, unless you receive a rejection email, I'd say you're still in the game!

Many reasons can be behind this. Very likely they're taking longer to process everything due to peak recruiting season (summer is usually the busiest). It's also possible the recruiter is working out the schedule of first round interview so this info can be included in next email to you.

Nonetheless, do email the recruiter next week, politely and professionally, as three weeks is a long wait and you won't appear as pushy in any way.  Believe they will give you an update very soon :)

All the best!

Hi there,

You are not out of the running unless they tell you that you are!

The offices in general are pretty swamped right now. I recommend you reach out (given it's been 3 weeks) and see if you can get an update.

If there's no email response within a week then try to call them!

Hey there,

It is still possible to move to the next round. Most candidates, however, hear back within 1 week.

Definitely reach out to HR -→ call them to clarify the status of your application.

Fingers crossed that it will work out for you!

Cheers,

Florian

Best solution is to reach out to the HR and ask for a clearer picture. It is entirely possible that they are processing the applications in batches and hence your 3 week wait. Do let us know how it goes.

Depending on when you give the test - waiting for even up to a month can be normal.

There is no explicit timeline that McKinsey publishes for getting back. Many factors can contribute to when you hear back. It is also peak time for people to take breaks over the summer given that school is out. Prior to labor day things are a bit slower.

Feel free to reach out to HR given that it has been 3 weeks and politely ask for a follow up to your application. There is absolutely no harm in that.

Hi there,

It is still possible that you pass. I once helped a candidate that got a reply 2 months after taking the test and moved to the first round.

I would recommend to follow-up with HR given you did the test 3 weeks ago – there are no penalties for doing so.

Best,

Francesco

Hello,

Not at all, a couple of weeks is not abnormal to wait to hear back. Reach out to the recruiter next week if you want, but I would assume you are still in the running. There's no need to assume the worst.
