I am an experienced hire and there is an opportunity at one of Mck Hubs as a knowledge analyst. It is on-site role and as I've known, It will be a mix of supporting teams internally + some client-facing tasks as well
Can you please provide some insights about that role career path? what are the promotion opportunities for it?

Hi,

usually McK Knowledge Analyst is a back-office role that supports the consulting teams in their client engagements, e.g. support through analyses and research on market sizing, etc.
There are also career opportunities (senior roles, etc.), however promotions happen less frequently than on a consultant track. In addition, it is more a role where you specialize, e.g. developing towards Senior Knowledge Analyst for a certain industry, … Still, if you push for it, there might be opportunities to transition to client-facing roles (Associate, etc.).
Without knowing the location of the knowledge hub (e.g. is it a remote/offshoring location or close to the client teams, …) it is a bit difficult to share further insights.

Hope that still helps!
Simon

McKinsey knowledge analysts have their own career path which is not the same as that of a traditional consultant. There is typically no way to switch to consulting, and your path is to progress towards a Master Expert as opposed to an equity partner in the firm.

In terms of work - to start with it will be largely supporting teams internally but over time you will be pulled into client facing tasks as well depending on your overall abilities and the needs of the client facing team.

I suggest you spend time going over their website which lists answers to many of these questions and also speak to current employees there to get a good up to date understanding of progression opportunities and pay etc.

Best,

Udayan

Hi there,

Below I've listed a few other helpful Q&As for you. Ultimately, it's a completely different role and promotion track (much more focused on research/analysis than consulting).
