MBB Networking and recruiting process

Hi!

I would love to know any tips or advice on how to network with MBB offices abroad, who to contact and how to go about referrals. My application for McKinsey is currently “In-Progress” so I am still on the race for the Business Analyst position. How long should I wait to hear back from the recruiter after completing the Imbellus game? Thank you in advance

Hi!

Congrats on making progress with your application.

For networking specifically, you can leverage these two resources:

The first focuses on how to make the most out of networking calls and the second is on how to source them.

Regarding when you're likely to hear back regarding the Imbellus game, it can really be anything between a couple of days and a couple of weeks. Some offices actually sort through applications after the deadline, whereas others do it ongoing.

Hope you hear from them soon!
Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

once you submit your application, any referral you might get afterwards typically will not get considered anymore. There is therefore not much added benefit in trying to do McK networking at this point.

For the remaining BB, you should try to secure a referral before sending in your respective application. If you don't know anyone personally, search on LinkedIn, for example, and start looking for current employees in your desired BB office or region that either have a connection in common with you or went to your university. Then you can start reaching out to inquire about a potential intro call to learn more about them, their role and their company, etc.

As for the feedback time after the Imbellus game, I often hear about a 1-2 week wait.

Best of luck

Hi there,

Q: I would love to know any tips or advice on how to network with MBB offices abroad, who to contact and how to go about referrals.

Normally, you need to get a referral before applying, so if you have already done so, (i) the referral might not be considered, and/or (ii) the person referring you might have less incentive to refer, as they are not going to get any bonus.

Having said that, if you want to check some tips for referrals, you can find an article on that below:

Good luck!

Hi,

Generally you'd want to try and build a connection with a consultant in the office that you are targeting. Try and find any relevant experiences that you can leverage i.e. alumni etc.

If you have already started the interview process, the referrals don't really matter anymore.

Hi there, while too late to make a meaningful impact on the invitation, still do networking to get better insights into the office, hiring velocity etc. Warm regards, Freddy
