Saw a recent post from another MD candidate asking about staggered interview invites for McKinsey full-time and wanted to ask a question as well. I'm in similar shoes to the original poster. MD candidate from a top 20 target medical school in the U.S applying to my local office with 2 referrals too. Unfortunately, also did not hear back last Friday but some PhD colleagues did receive interview invites. I reached out to MD candidates I know scattered across the U.S who applied to various offices, and out of the 6 people including me who applied, not a single one heard back from McKinsey last Friday but no one received a rejection either. I have seen some of their resumes and a lot of them are quite impressive. Of course given the small sample size it's hard to draw conclusions, but given that there are so few MDs applying to consulting in the U.S to begin with, I assume 6 people would be a significant portion of the MD applicant pool for NA.
Thus, my question is that if it's possible the MDs are reviewed in a separate “batch” from the PhDs? Or is the economic situation so bad that McKinsey NA is just not hiring MDs through full-time this year?
Thanks!
Is McKinsey hiring MDs through full-time this year?

It is highly possible MDs are reviewed separately - usually by other MDs in the firm. Given that no MDs have heard back I think they are probably not done reviewing yet.

Hi there,
My understanding is that they are, but you have to remember hiring is down. For your purposes, just focus on having a good a resume as possible and networking (ideally with a referral).

Hi there,
Applications might be reviewed according to different backgrounds yes. However, it is very unlikely that McKinsey will stop to hire MDs for this year. They will continue to hire overall and they do really care about hiring a diverse pool of people. It is just likely the case that they will hire less in overall numbers but this is not specific to MDs. So, I don't see any reason why they would not hire MDs. You could also always send an email to HR asking when you will likely receive the outcome.
Best of luck!

Hi there,
Realistically, recruitment is just slowing down. And it's slowing down across all roles. It's not only for MDs.
You might still hear back from them. Don't read too much in not getting a response until now.
Aside from this, I'd recommend you keep on applying. Especially since the market is tough now, I'd recommend you go as broad as you can. This guide explains how you should go about it:

Fellow applicant here. MD hires and PhD hires are in separate batches. I heard last year the MD interviews were released a week later than PhD interviews. Although this year the MD hiring might dramatically decrease because McKinsey over-hired MDs in the previous years and this year the healthcare industry took a huge hit. Fingers crossed!

It is possible that your application will be reviewed later - it's unlikely that McKinsey is not hiring specifically MDs.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do besides (i) applying to other companies and/or (ii) waiting for the outcome. You might also ask the people who referred you for an update, in case you have a good connection with them.
Good luck!

Hi there,
indeed, it's quite probable that they are reviewing MD applications in a separate batch.
Regarding economic situation - while yes, hiring numbers for McK are down very significantly this year, they typically do not exclude specific cohorts / backgrounds from the process, but rather reduce hiring targets overall, across backgrounds.
Rest assured that macroeconomic fluctuations do not impact the firm's general aim to intentionally foster and hire diversity - the latter has been and still is a core ingredient to the firm's exceptoinal problem solving competence.
Hope this helps. Wish you all the best!
Regards, Andi
